You see my mother has cancer. This bomb got dropped on me about six weeks ago. She has gone through all of the tests, etc and we discovered it's in her kidney. We also discovered that it has in fact spread into her lungs. Which is very bad.

The doctors can treat it, but they can't stop it. And for the very low price of 2799.00 a month we can preserve her life likely as long as she remains on the treatment.

I don't have an extra 36000 dollars to give my mother. I'm not an OT baller.

I read all the time here, during our health care debates, that there are programs that can aid people with the costs of these type of medical issues. I don't begin to know where to look. So I ask you guys...to point me to them...because while I recognize that my mom probably doesn't have as long on earth as I would like. I would like to make sure she can have every day as long as possible.

Thanks.

Very sad to hear, prayers sent. Enjoy the time as much as you can, it's a lesson to everyone just how precious life is.

Does she not have insurance?

Very sorry about your mother.

Does she have health insurance? If not, her cancer can not prevent her from getting it.

Most of us will have to go thru that time when we find out our parents will not be with us much longer. I don't think there is ever a way to get that news and feel much control over it. It just sucks.

I can't claim to be super versed on this subject. But, I can say that I had a friend who successful raised %25K for an overseas adoption of his adopted daughter's brother. He did so in about 90 days. There are many sites for this, but he used LINK /

I'm so sorry to hear that.

Have you sought out support groups? Online groups for people with cancer? They might know some charitable groups helping people in your position.

Out of curiosity, what is the name of the treatment and what is her diagnosis? I need an idea of what is going on.

I'm assuming you are talking about extension of life, not treatment or palliative care.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about her diagnosis.

So terribly sorry to hear about your mom's cancer. I have no idea where to begin on the treatment path, but my most sincere wishes that your search produces something worthwhile.

I have a very good friend who just had his kidney removed. Was seriously the first time I have ever heard of that.

My prayers go out to you and your mom. I will see him today and ask if he has any information. Will also help look up places that could help.

Sorry to hear about your mom. What about the ACA website? That might direct you to a possible source of help.

Tough news. I wish nothing but the best for your Mom.

The center, founded in 2008, was inspired by Dempsey’s mother, Amanda, who has a rare form of ovarian cancer. It provides free support, education and integrative medicine to anyone affected by cancer.

Sorry to hear about your mother.

You can check This out. Assuming she's on votrient, it seems to be covered under GSK's patient assistance program.

Outside of whatever financial help you can get, try to be one of the strong ones emotionally in the family. Be the very best son you can be, and this will be an invaluable strength to your Mother.

My stepfather(practically my dad) passed in 2003 from lung cancer complications. I wish my relationship had been good with him my entire life with him, and not just his last few years. But I'm glad I was there and strong for us all. For him to talk with me privately about his fears and concerns, and how much of a comfort I was, that was nice.

Also, try/start staying well-informed. Doctors see that and are likely to share more with you on what they can realistically do
