I want to be able to check my score without them signing me up for a contract and charging my card every month. I also don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Suggestions?

CreditKarma works for me and they've never asked for a credit card.

by law you are entitled to a free credit score once a year. if you sign up at say experian, you get all three. just cancel right away and pay nothing. use a junk email account to avoid spammage

Call your bank. They'll give it to you. Mine does anyway.

Like others have said you can use CreditKarma but the score isn't a true FICO score and may it may not be anywhere near your actual FICO score. It's a good tool for tracking your credit report and making sure no fraudulent activity is going on. You can buy your scores from MyFico.com. I have a Discover It card and Barclay card which come with free monthly FICO scores but they're both TransUnion I believe.

FWIW, my Credit Karma score was off by 100 points. It's just an estimate. I knew something wasn't right, so I joined MyFico. I pay $5 a month for monitoring and get my score/report every 3 months (included in that price). You could just pay the first $5, get your score/report, and then cancel.
