re: Getting skunked on a charter trip

im sure it happens. i have went on 2 diff hunting trips where weather didnt cooperate. One in kentucky one i n ohio.. sometimes it isnt meant to be. Had a friend go on an illiniois hunt also and was there 3 days and made one afternoon hunt because of weather... hell same guy went to colorado last yr for 7 days elk hunting and got to leave camp one day and nobody on the trip even saw an elk because of all the snow

If a guide spends his day doing everything he can spending his money paying his boat note, paying his insurance and paying for all the maintenance then yes pay him. He did his job and it is called fishing. If you don't expect to pay if you don't catch then don't go. Because after 16 years of guiding not one person ever paid me twice as much if they caught twice as many fish. We work hard day in and day out to make sure everyone has a trip to remember. We can't control if the fish are biting that day. I know it sucks because I'm twice as upset as any customer will ever be if I fill like we had a bad day.but I still did my job as good as any other charter boat would have and I'd like to thank better. We don't do this to get rich, we enjoy the company and sharing the outdoors with others. We spend hours and days preparing for the trips. Talking to other captains making a game plan for the next day. So yes it sucks you didn't catch any fish but if this captain is well known for catching fish don't bash him because the fish weren't biting when he put you in the middle of the school and for the guy that said he shouldn't have paid I would like to know WHY if he did his job by bringing you to the fish and worked all day why shouldn't he get paid. If you thank our job is so easy come try it you can start working Friday.
