bump, you made it down there yet?

Yes, and I loathe it here entirely. I'd without question rather be in Detroit. This town has to be the worst in America, and it has a Jekyll and Hyde feel to it. Either the citizens are super friendly or super violent, and the friendly ones have warned me that as a Caucasian I should lay low.

Thank frick I'm only here for another week or two. I've lived in slums before, but I think this one has made the top. And from my bar, that's saying a lot. Thank god I'm leaving here soon. It can only be an improvement.

Thank you for your advice, but this city has not sat well with me, and I have not enjoyed myself despite your recommendations. Thank you for them though.

I had never been to the valley in 30 years of being a Texan but a new job has taken me there a few times. It's pretty brutal to be honest. Better than El Paso. There's some good food and if you want to pick up bay fishing here's your chance. I'd live in the Los Fresnos, Harlingen, Port Isabel areas iff I had a choice

I will say this, I have never seen a better collection of beautiful Latina women than in the area. Absolutely astounding. I would imagine the strip clubs may not suck if that's your thing.

That's hard for me to comprehend, since I've somehow managed to make my way into the two most impoverished communities in the US, in Brownsville and McAllen. And that's literally the case. I make more in a month than many of these people make in a year, and I'm not rich by any means. I went to Rii Grande City the other day, and surely they misdrew the border. I'm about to go god damn insane.
Surely El Paso has an Irish pub somewhere.

As a whitey that goes to McAllen 3-4 times a year, I've never had any issues with locals. I usually stay at the Embassy Suites and go to a lot of local restaurants and bars with coworkers. Where are you staying/hanging out?

Of course, I thought El Paso wasn't bad either...I stayed around UTEP and went bar hopping in down town. Never had any issues and there are some absolutely beautiful Hispanic women around there. Despite being across from Jaurez, El Paso is actually one of the safer large cities in the US.

There are worse places in LA than Brownsville and McAllen. Seriously. Get over it. Go knock of a Latina lady and remove her from the life of serfdom down there

Yeah, but there was plenty of shite to do out there. I get bored quickly, and living in a town with not shite to do gets old quick.

You sound like a total idiot. Just pick up a hooker, bust your nut, and be done with it.

He certainly is a crybaby for being a 3rd place performer. Probably should go sell flowers.

Of towns of equal population, they have the highest poverty level. Research it. They are the two single poorest towns in the United States. Hard to find things in my comfort zone here.

Never been, but one of my buddies from Houston got a chicana pregnant. She moved in with her mother in McAllen and he flipped his lid. Apparently it's not a very safe city.

of their size, probably agree. but they're both good size towns.

but there are worse.

Forbes has them listed as that, but there's a lot of nice areas in both towns as well. you can go to plenty of Kentucky and West Virginia and find whole towns that make mid-level Brownsville look like royalty.

if i had to live down there i'd make the most of it with the lovely ladies. they like white boys.

It's a pretty rough area. Depending on how long you have left go to SA and Corpus when you have free time

damn bro, sorry to hear that.

again im assuming you got posted up on the south side of town which sucks and gravitates towards the decription you are giving. north is the place to be.

if you have a chance go wtach the usa game thursday at gamehaus, there will be a good crowd with ppl your age (although not completely sure since it'll be a midweek game, should still be a nice gathering tho)

just make the best of it. i've been there before, went to school in idaho and hated it cuz i told myself it was going to suck. next time i wa sin that situation i had to stay in okla-fricking-homa for a year and enjoyed it much more because i psyched myself into thinking it was going to kick arse

there are way, way, waaaaaay worse places to be man, trust me. tons of places in la,ms, kentucky, tennessee, i've been through that make mctown look like dubai.

worst case scenario, bang some latinas, smoke the cheapest good weed you'll ever come across and eat some good arse food.

i would go crazy if i still lived there but i love going down to visit. you just needed to meet some people and you would have had a better time.

and its not dangerous unless you head towards those sketchy neighborhoods south of the expressway and shout "hey, im a honkey arse motherfricker that hates mexicans"

Went there recently for a business trip. Went to a place called Gamehaus. It was a lot of fun. Granted the gringos were outnumbered 10-1, but I get along well with everyone so it was cool.

WOW

So I just found this thread. Sorry I am late.

McAllen is really awful. Not going to lie to you or polish a turd.

Podunk places very wildly. I lived in far SW Virginia, almost the corner of the state, in a small Appalachian town and loved it. Great scenery, wonderful people. I lived in Olive Branch, MS and wanted to kill myself. Horrible white trash characterless quasi-suburbia.
