Well that's better. Crazyass Russians can't function without vodka. Are the local girls cute or all covered up and off limits?

The Muslims I saw normally had different states of covering up from full on burka to just head scarves. I stayed away from them on the advice of others.

My wife lived there for about 10 years and loved it. She would move back in a second. We vacationed there a couple of years ago and it was awesome. Drinking is allowed in the hotels and we never had an safety concerns. We went around Christmas and there were more Christmas trees there than there were in Paris or London.

I think it would be a great experience for you.

my dad has worked in Saudi for the last 12 years. He lives in Saudi & comes home a few times a year. He visits Dubai occasionally, it is very westernized and liberal. That's where the Muslim go to party.

They aren't all over you all the time. Some people enjoy getting out of their comfort zone and experiencing new cultures and the people. My Dad enjoyed the hell out of it and was sad when his company pulled him out. He'd go back in a heartbeat and he is based in Canada now, so it's not like he is in a worse area than the one he left. I loved getting the free trips over there on his company's dime as well.

ea, you do ANYTHING to piss off a local Arab and you are screwed. You could be minding your business on the street and if some arab dude punches you, well, it's your fault for having your face there

such a westernized country

I don't know about running out of oil, but that is why they built Dubai they way it is. They knew on e the oil was gone, the money would be also. So, they started making it like it is to get people to go and spend money. They host to the super rich everyday and have built a damn good thing. If it dries up of oil, they will still have the super rich and all. If my wife wasn't so stuck on not living outside the US, Dubai would definitely be on my short list of places to live.

Yeah I looked it up after that post and some people are speculating as early as 2016 they could be done, but the oil is a very low percentage of their economy now so it basically wouldn't be a big impact if they ran out today. They definitely did the right thing.

Cousin took a position there around 4 years ago because she thought it was going to be glamorous and that she would be able to save up some money.

It turned out to be a very fricked up place from her vantage point and this is keeping in mind that she is using other middle eastern countries as a basis of comparison since she had never lived or worked outside of Lebanon or Jordan.

A lot of things that were guaranteed did not come to fruition. They tried to block her from leaving the country when she quit. Lots of sexism/ rules. Her boss demanded sexual favors and everything was ridiculously expensive.

She lives in Toronto now and likes it much better. YMMV.

If I were a woman, the Middle East or Southeast Asia would be the last place I'd relocate.

The Western expats don't live the same way as the Arabs. All you have to do is join a "country club" and you can do pretty much anything you'd be able to do at home. You can sit around the pool, drink a few beers, gawk at bikini-clad white womenz.

There are easy ways for expats to legally circumvent the Sharia law. We're talking the UAE here, not Saudi Arabi, and even in Saudi has "country club" type places for expats that are basically off limits to the religious police.

On top of all that, you don't have to pay income tax if you stay out of the US for a certain number of (consecutive, mind you) days. I believe it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 260 or so.
