I would say if you want to save money, get rid of all of the unnecessary telecom (i.e. cell phones, cable tv, internet, etc.)...that would save some bucks...
I'll keep buying soap, though...

I would think the trade off between time spent and money saved would have a poor ROI. Dependent, of course, on how much you value your time. You'd do better doing that extreme couponing. Cleaner, quicker, and saves you money on more than just toiletries.

That is easily $300,000-$400,000 in savings!

you should watch that series on Netflix. I think it's called Serious Cheap Skates or maybe Serious Penny Pinchers.
There's a family that uses old clothes, rags, towels, etc cuts them into strips. Then washes them for re-use

Borax and baking soda laundry detergent. Mix it myself. Saves tons, no dyes and does not wear out the clothing like other detergent

Sorry but its funny to me. Its like on Storage Wars when the guys find 500 old DVDs and are like "those are $20 a pop, thats a $10,000 bill right there" when they know damn well they are getting $20 for an old arse DVD!

I really did believe millions would be saved. Still real to me.

Did you just read that book, 'the toothpaste millionaire"? Cause it gave me the same idea when I was 8 too.

My mother has made her own soap, shampoo, and detergent. I'd be for it if she said she just wanted to try it. She thinks she is really saving a ton of money. However, she probably saved a good bit using cloth diapers on me as a baby.
