Trade him

They've tried. Probably tried for years. No one wants that contract.

This dude is the worst. Make his arse play 6th man, so his illogical arse will decline his player option.

Was so disappointed when they wouldn't let him go to Phoenix.

This seemed like the most clear desicion to make as a GM. Maybe they didn't want to admit defeat on the CP3 trade?

Extinct. We've gone from seriously debating EG vs. Harden to trading him for any contract that isn't worse.

Yeah, if any hindsight decision was the most clear at the time, it's working a S&T for anything, just letting him walk to Phoenix was never the way to go.

Honestly, keeping him was clearly saving face over the trade results. In the end, they didn't want to lose every piece from that trade.

If we ignore the unintentional tank job landed the Pelicans AD, the results of that trade are:

1 year of Kaman.
Less than 1.5 years of a mediocre Gordon at a max contract rate.
AFA
and
.
.
.
.
.
Rivers.

Literally, if not for the luck of getting AD, that may have been one of the worst trades in NBA history.

For that amount of money, I thought it was the smart thing to do to let a player who is injury prone and who doesn't want to play for the team walk.

Yeah, but if you were ok letting him go at the very least you could have gotten Dudley and a 1st from Phoenix or one of the many young PFs and a 1st from Houston. The people that didn't want to keep him at the time were right, there just was no reason to let him walk for nothing when you could have gotten something minimal for him.

Keeping him made sense at the time due to his talent/previous production/our situation post CP3

Looking at it 2 years later obviously makes you think differently in hindsight

I'm not trying to toot my own horn here or anything.

I'm just saying, at the time the situation was happening, I saw an injury prone shooting guard who was acting like a diva that made it clear he didn't want to play for the Hornets. I didn't see any good out of keeping him.

There is no way you could've known it would turn out this way. Demps had no choice but to match the offer from Phoenix. Just because someone signs an offer sheet and says they want to play somewhere else doesn't make them a diva. I mean, it's not hard to find people that would prefer to live in Phoenix over New Orleans.

One comment did the guy in. Nic Batum wanted to go to Minny this past off season. He made a copule of comments that rubbed Portland fans the wrong way but they matched and they had a great year.

Gordon hasn't had the luxury of playing on exciting, playoff bound teams (and contributing to that) to make fans change their minds about him. He certainly wasn't the reason we missed the playoffs this year and it's not his fault he's getting $16 million/year. He was a young, up and coming shooting guard.

He will never be a leader on any team. It's not really a knock on him as a player, he is just an extremely introverted guy. What I don't think he realizes is how easily he could revise his image. If he made a couple of comments about loving the city, being excited for the season, doing a bunch of work in the community, etc. people would start to look past one dumbass comment. I honestly think he's naive to the fact that he's disliked.

I go back and forth on this topic. I think the hate he gets is more about his personality, or lake of, than his play on the court.
