That would be the last way I would recommend doing it, IMO.
We had to meet with the guy 7-8x before the final plans were set.
Then, you'll need at least 10-12 sets of plans for the subs. Plus, you'll need acces to the architect when problems come up on the job. What about e&o insurance?
That "on the side" stuff is cheap and may work if you know exactly what you want, but I don't know of it is overall the best idea.
Get a damn good framer, no matter which way you go.

Well one of them has been doing dwg for 30 years. He use to work with an arch and his son works for him full time now. Hes in demand and has a great rep. The 150 houses he draws a year dont have a problem with him.

That is the one place I feel the best with "overpaying". Do not go off price with the framer, go off quality of work, recommendation, and feel for the person doing the work. A quality framer will help you with schedule, other subs they "prefer" working around, and they most literally set the entire foundation for all the remaining work (other than actual foundation). Any mistake or lack of quality by a framer will only be compounded through the rest of the process and is very hard to correct or conceal.
