I look at it this way, if we get a season 10 it won't be with jack as the lead guy. There is no angle they can take to make Jack appear in the first episode.

Terrorism in Russia and Jack has to work for them this time around, against an American enemy.

That's just outside the box enough to work.

Don't listen to me, though; I was positive that they were going to end this season clean and not on a cliffhanger.

On another note, I just love how with 12 episodes, they kept the real time format (complete with quirks like crossing town in less than ten minutes) instead of making each episode cover 2 hours and just fast forwarded twelve hours for the last 10 minutes to make it "24".

That's this show in a nutshell and I love it!

While I'm disappointed we didn't get a definitive ending, this episode was awesome and one of the best episodes of 24 I can think of.

The scene with Heller and the Prime Minister was one of the best the show has ever had. The tension in the final scene was off the charts as well. I really thought Belcheck was going to intervene and save Jack by killing him somehow. Did anyone else think after Jack heard about Audrey that he had a brief moment of contemplating suicide? I don't think so, but it was weird how he pulled out his pistol and then reholstered it.

I hope the show returns but there's no guarantee.

to another wonderful ride with Jack Bauer. frick you writers for making the ending so damn bleak and depressing!!!

It was grim as could be, wasn't it? Though war with the Chinese was averted, everyone lost on a personal level.

British and Chinese discover proof that Russia helped Cheng develop and use the override device so the Russkies could benefit from the Chinese/American war.

Pissed over the terrorist attacks that Cheng's temporarily stolen device caused in England, and the loss of the Chinese aircraft carrier once Cheng recovered it, they join forces (with the leadership of Kate, Chloe, and Belchek) to free Jack who then finds new evil plots and bad guys to kill and kick around in a new season.

He said "Take it easy, Jack, jeez"

I was thinking the same thing as you though. He knocks out the SS guy a couple episodes earlier and he basically says the same thing

jack gonna need to be put on suicide watch after this season.

When Kate told Jack, he started to cry and pulled out his pistol. I think he was about to end it, but then he heard people coming and got his wits again. The beheading was great although a little more pain was in order for that prick

Only way we get season 10 is if Kate becomes the lead as she tries to find Jack and rescue him. That way Jack is only in a couple of episodes, as he's said he doesn't think he's up to doing an entire season

Makes sense. Kinda sucks though, watching Jack Bauer work is hilarious. If he wasn't full-time, it would seem less than...

I thought this season was great. I am going to start season 1 soon for the first time

ETA: Should I just watch the seasons in order? Or should I skip any?

No, but some are much better than others. 6 is universally thought of as the worst, but it's necessary to fully understand 24:LAD, and does have some awesome parts. My least favorite was actually season 3, though.

And, actually, Chloe wasn't in the original 24. The only character that I can think of besides Jack that isn't dead or in prison from the original 24 is Kim.

Yeah, I meant original 24 as in seasons 1-8 which I think is technically, though not in practicality, a different series than 24LAD. That's what I meant when I said Chloe (besides Jack) is the only person who: a) was in original 24 b) was in 24LAD and c) could possibly still play a role in next season (Premise c eliminates Heller, Audrey and Cheng). And that's also why I mentioned I wouldn't mind seeing Pierce or Wayne return from the "original" 24.

I think you're right that Jack and Kim are the only ones from Season 1 not dead/in prison (although Jack is now "in prison" with the Russians technically). In fact, the only other character I can think of who had a major role in season 1 at all that's still alive is Tony (and he even already "died"). 24 is pretty brutal to its characters. I did mention earlier I didn't want Tony back, but his ending also disappointed me so I wouldn't mind if he was brought back for a more satisfying personal conclusion. But at the same time, he's kind of run his course. I really wish they just wouldn't have brought him back in the first place.

I still maintain I want to find out about Pierce and Wayne. They both had pretty major roles and were both likable characters but kind of just disappeared out of the 24 limelight without us really hearing anything about them at all.

ETA: And I agree, it should not return if Kate's in the lead, with the main purpose to try to "rescue" Jack. And that's not even anything against Kate, I'd say the same thing if it was anyone but Jack. Jack's the main character. It's not 24 without him in the lead role.

I literally screamed "Yes!" when Cheng returned three or four episodes ago. Definitely going to miss him now that he's gone.

Jack issuing a threat to his Russian captor was an absolutely perfect way for him to go out this season.

I think Kate telling him about Audrey, at a time when he needed his wits about him, was foolish on her part.

What about rescuing Jack or trading for him. Did he not appear in the first episode when he was captured at the end of a season by the Chinese?

They could show him escaping his captors in Moscow, while something else is going on in Eastern Europe.

I digged the 12 episodes as well, but I would love for it to come back in full 24 mode. It might take a few episodes for Jack to be back in contact with the USA but with a longer 24 episode season it wouldn't be a big deal. By the time episode 5 came around, you wouldn't even be thinking that Jack is somehow attempting to thwart another terrorist operation when just 4.5 hours ago he was busting out of a Russian Prison. And that he has somehow killed 11 people in that time span as well.

It ended in style. First Jack surrenders himself to certain torture in order to save his friend. Then Jack looks the man who holds his life in his hands and threatens him with destruction if he crosses Jack. Perfect, it doesn't get any more badass than that.

I expected an ending with Jack jumping out of the helicopter,(way high in the sky), dragging the Russian along. This would have put a close to the series.

The door is open for Jack to return.
