If he jumps a split second later or one step later, the ball is past him. It's exactly why he was completely stretched out. If he takes another step, the ball goes by him.

If he had to, then he had to.

Diving for a ball is a last resort you use when the ball's path is angling away from you. It's a well used method of extending a players reach in order to make up ground on a ball over your head/angling away.

How anyone can question the need for the dive as opposed to running to the ball, in this case, is a mystery to me, but not surprising given the nit-picking nature of sports forums.

Apparently, we can't just be happy that he made an amazing, game-saving catch that gave LSU the chance to win it in the 10th. Nope, gotta complain about HOW he did it. Welcome to the Rant.
