How the government has the constitutional right to tell an employer the minimum he must pay an employee is beyond me. All minimum wage does is a) raise prices to the consumer (further increasing that poverty line they point to) and b) put a lot of people not worth the minimum wage out of work. A business can pay two people for $14.50 now, plus the FICA and Medicare match plus state and federal unemployment tax plus any benefits, or pay 1 person for $10.10 to the do the same job - a fairly menial job that does not merit a single transferable skill. As an employer, I would just put onus on fewer workers to keep my overall costs down rather than retain everyone and pay them 50% more.
