Been thinking about pulling the trigger on a slingbox 500. At one point I thought I may wanna splurge on MLB.tv but then I thought why blow $150 on a yearly deal when I could drop $300 on a one time purchase and watch the Bravos, any football game, or just TV.

So, anyone have it? Is it worth it? Does it destroy your data plan on your phone? Does the phone app work worth a shite? Have you ever been to a turkish prison?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Slingbox is awesome. Takes about 20 minutes to set it up on your tv and phone total.

slingbox 500

I always wondered how this would work at a tailgate to watch other games. Without WiFi, I would imagine it would destroy some data

I have one. Put it at my parents house in Nola.
Its an older model but works to watch CST on. I was using it for everything but have Direct TV and no living on an oil rig anymore.

Make sure you have a decent computer bc it can degrade the video quality if not

If you're buying the 500 because of its ability to use wifi and not just be hardwired, consider hardwiring it anyway (or looking at the 350, if it will suit you). It's possible that you can get enough bandwidth while you're not home using other devices, but we've got one directly plugged into a router that's acting as a wireless bridge across my parents' house. The quality can be decent, but it's prone to a lot more wishy-washiness than if it were/when it was plugged directly into a router.

One of my better investments especially living abroad. I have watched more Saints games now vs. living in Houston.

Yes its great for watching HD tv from home

Also depends how good your download speed is and how good their upload is.

I have 100 meg fiber and my dad's upload is around 16 to 20 meg on his fiber so its clear HD and I hardline everything and my desktop here has HDMI.
