They are solid but hardly on ND's level.

Slive should say yes...but only if the game is on Sunday.

They are typically better than the shitty Big 12, ACC and B1G schools like Kansas, Indiana and Wake. I don't see why not

They play Savannah State on senior day this season... so I would say yes they are having a hard time scheduling.

It's tough to schedule for them when the two nearest major conferences, the Pac12/Big12 play 9 game schedules. Then the WAC broke apart which ruined their 5 games a year deal with the WAC, and they do schedule MWC schools but only 4 per season. Utah won't play them anymore

So BYU has to fill a 12 game schedule, with one FCS team and 4 MWC teams. After that they have to fight for 7 more games.

I really don't see a compelling reason to deny them the "ND Exception".

They're at least as good consistently as Wake, Duke, NCState, Indiana, Minnesota, Washington State, or Oregon State.

They're desperate so they'll agree to anything and not punk anyone by dropping out of a deal.

Because they're having such trouble putting together a schedule, they will end up with a winning record every year by virtue of playing crappy teams, so if you think you can beat them, it'll be a victory that will help, nit hurt your SOS.

As an aside, DAMN, Utah screwed them good! Wow!!! Just as BYU launched its network and independence, Utah, their biggest rival, went from the second-tier, where they'd been, to a BCS Power 5 conference!

The basic principle has some fairly significant flaws, the primary one being that simply being in one of the major conferences doesn't automatically make a team a quality opponent, and not being in one doesn't automatically mean the team isn't. Notre Dame has been horrific some years, while Boise State would have beaten them like redheaded step-rechauns. There's really no easy fix except to have an annual vote on each and every team non-major conference team that applies to be considered "major" enough to be a quality OOC opponent, and then vote annually on whether they deserve to remain. That ensures that sufficient success over a time will be rewarded eventually, while failure to maintain success will be treated accordingly. But that's an ugly and political fix, so the essential problem remains.

Notre Dame doesn't deserve the Notre Dame exception.

If BYU was a Big 5 program, they would be in a Big 5 conference. It's not as if they turned down the Pac 12 to stay independent or something.
