Interesting story and argument about whether sexual orientation can be engineered in utero. Should parents be able to take steps to lower the likelihood that their child will be gay or lesbian? What are the political and social implications of this drug, if indeed it does work?

So much for people letting nature takes it course.

I don't really care if they want to do that. It's up to them. At the same time, don't sue the doctor when it's born with four legs and a tail.

My guess is this would decrease the odds of them having sex anyway.

I think it starts a slippery slope making the portrayal of life in the movie GATTACA seem more and more prophetic.

If a 'gay' gene is ever discovered, then the libs are going to twist themselves into knots once people begin aborting children they believe will turn out gay.

They'd try to include babies ... excuse me, fetuses or blobs ... in anti-discrimination legislation, or outlaw the testing required to determine possible gayness.

I doubt, given the medical risks, that most doctors would even prescribe this method. The political and social implications remind me of Nazi Germany where everyone was supposed to fit a certain mold of what a person should be and look like.

arguments.

If a potential parent would do that for that reason, then the child and society are better off them not raising a child to begin with.

How are parents and society better off with gay kids that won't reproduce?

Why does everyone have to reproduce? Is that what determines a child's worthiness now?

Can clone a sheep.

Still no "gay gene" discovered.

I was told in the 90s that the "gay gene" would be discovered very soon.

gay gene:global warming

Except then global warming became "climate change"

They haven't figured out a good excuse yet for why the "gay gene" evidently cannot be discovered.

There mat or may not be a gay gene. My hypotheses is it's a combination of genes that express themselves with a hormone imbalance durning the humane development years. Thus a child with an insufficient amount of estrogen or testosterone could be supplemented with the "right" hormone cocktail to essentially cure the gay. Just a theory based on the fact hormones drive our sexuality.

Yeah. Some people don't need to reproduce. A lot of them on this board come to mind.

Not everyone has to but it's usually what's most desirable for parents if they want to see their family genetics carry on an experience the joy of grandkids and reproduction is vital for the continuation of society.

I've also learned that a woman's womb is naturally inclined to make the fetus a female. The more kids the woman has, the better she is at keeping the fetus more 'female' which in the case of gays would mean more estrogen leading to an attraction towards men. There are medical theories that there's a higher rate of gays that are the youngest of several siblings.

Then if the first is gay, have another. They will love them both and the odds of one couple having multiple gay kids is remote.
