How much would it hurt the college game though? How many big name recruits would we be talking about going overseas?

And I know they wouldn't stay in Europe permanently, just until they are eligible for NBA. My main concern is this rule's effect on college basketball.

Hard to tell. The one and dones may opt for a pro league overseas. Others who were inclined to play more than one year of college ball will continue to make their way to campus.

I have wanted this rule for a while now. I think it is great for the college game. It's mutually beneficial for both the NCAA and NBA to have guys stick to amateur basketball for the 2 years. They can go to the league more mature and after playing against tougher competition for 2 years.

I think very few players will leave for overseas for 1 year then try to go to NBA. And those that do, would have entered the draft. Some in really tough financial situations may, but overall this will keep great players in college basketball longer.

I don't see this rule forcing kids to go overseas rather than play 1 yr college.

Just to put it in perspective, were talking 18 year olds moving overseas where they have no real familiarity with the teams and coaches or the system, much less FIBA rules, just so they can get paid 2 years sooner.

Plus, NCAA has better coaching talent/development/exposure. This will not encourage many kids to play overseas IMO.

I honestly doubt this would happen.

How many 18 year olds are ready and willing to move to another country where they dont speak the language passing over free college for 2 years?

I know football there "isnt another option" but those guys make it to class and pass for 3 years I think bball can suffer through 2.
