Your life without guns would be just like a slave's. Or even a little like a slave's.

We could definately become slaves to a tyrannical gov. without the ability to protect ourselves. History has shown this to be true and it could be repeated.

It goes past American slavery. If you look at slavery, genocide, ethnic cleansing, massive oppression, etc on global historical scale, one common element was the probation of arms placed upon the group being enslaved, oppressed, killed. Madison, Jefferson, and Hamilton all knew this and agreed on the purpose of the Second Amendment and Hamilton NEVER agreed with Madison and Jefferson on anything.

For all that can be said about the Founders (the actual seven men responsible for creating the country), it cannot be denied that each was extremely well versed in world history.

Yes Antonia it does go beyond American slavery and I thought about all the instances where the unarmed were subjugated throughout history, but didn't include it in my post. Anyone who is truthful and knows history understands that an unarmed populous is subject to the mercy of those who possess them.

very simplistic thinking, IMO and sadly typical of what I see from the Right daily. And why are you using a movie to showcase or debate a possible "real life" scenario? That's ludicrous. Movies are created by a person sitting at a computer for 12 hours a day formulating conflict, obstacles and thus drama. I should know, I do it. This is a flimsy attempt at debate. A weak argument.

You didn't address one point in his OP. He wasn't using the movie as a display of historical accuracy, only as a jumping off point for the discussion.

Just because I don't think women should be allowed to vote doesn't make me mean.

It makes you logical. I don't think women should have the right to vote. In general, they are too emotional to make rationale decisions.

That's why there are no women on Poli Boards. They can't handle logical discourse.

The illustration from the movie was simplistic and was meant to be. Sometimes absurdity has to pointed out by the adsurd. The simplistic idea that slaves would have been in a better position to protect themselves with guns is as simplistic as the fact that citizens who are armed are also safer. Yet this simplistic truth is denied by gun grabbers.

Umm . . . Jesus was wrongly killed by the State.

Kind of falls in line with the OP's point.

So if Jesus had a gun, things would have been different.

Well, that's enlightening.

I talk to some every day. Otherwise normal rational people who truly believe taking everyone's guns away would make us safer. Apparently, history means nothing to these people?

Many of these people genuinely look at you like you have 4 heads if you even imply that we could experience govt oppression here. EVER!! It's fascinating. Like they think that our current republic is absolutely immortal.

What the frick in history would every give someone this idea? And hell, it aint like our republic has been all that peachy on occasion and more importantly, generally these same gun grabbers will gladly cite you all of those instances. But, of course, it can't happen again!!!

If Jesus had a sword, I doubt He would have used it. If I remember correctly, didn't He chastise Peter for using his sword to try to protect Him ?

No he wouldn't have used it and that's not the point. I don't know why Jesus was thrown into this post anyway?

Your comparison of government control to the American institution of slavery is cheap, sensationalist, and insulting. Our more recent history is that government protects people from men who probably look like you.
