While I've got this thread posted, what's the board's thoughts on optics:
Or forget the extra magnifier and just get a single EOTech or Aimpoint? Also, from just a cursory look through the internet I've read a lot of opinions stating that the Aimpoint is the better optic out of the two and is a lot more reliable. That sound about right?

I love my EXPS2-2 (eotech). I don't leave my dot in so I don't mind not having the 50k battery life that the Aimpoint has. Eotech has a pretty large field of view. That being said, my next build will probably host an Aimpoint Pro. Great buy especially if you can get for the $350 range.
As far as the flip magnifier. I don't have any experience with, but folks I know who have used in the field have complained about it getting in the way and being a bit bulky. If you want magnification, think of a variable power scope with a true 1x mag.

Get a magnified scope with a true 1x.
