If so, should the Bundys? I don't know how this works. And if ranchers don't pay grazing fees in some amount, is that an unfair advantage over a rancher that leases (or buys) private ground?

Yes, they do.

Here is what you should know... it was that evil, nasty, big government, leftist TYRANT Ronald Reagan who first decreed that ranchers should pay, without exception, grazing fees on Federal lands at rates determined by the Depts. of Agriculture and the Interior.

I listened Mrs. Bundy on TV this morning. She said the land belongs to the state of Nev and they pay the state grazing fees. She claims that the BLM is using the claim of fees being owed as a pretext to drive them out and take the land.

Now, if it comes down to who do you believe is telling the truth I'll trust a random citizen over the federal govt any day.

After escalating fees and regulation, Bundy is the sole remaining cattle rancher in southern Nevada

Yes, I pay annually for a free range permit to the FS. Doesn't amount to a whole lot of money compared to what it would cost me to feed my horses and mules.

About 5 years ago I had an extended legal battle with the FS regarding the FRP. Since it was a grandfathered permit, I eventually ended up winning the battle. Surrounding ranches that didn't choose to fight the fight have since lost their range permits.

The Bureau of Land Management, whose director was Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) former senior adviser, has purged documents from its web site stating that the agency wants Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s cattle off of the land his family has worked for over 140 years in order to make way for solar panel power stations.

This could be why the Gov has spent $3m to collect $1m.
