Scenario: You're walking down the street in the French Quarter. A random stranger stops you and asks to see your driver's license. What do you do?
Is the stranger a police officer or doorman of an establishment I'm entering?

Not in NOLA.

No.
Wanna bet? Doesn't necessarily mean you'll be convicted.

Where bicycles are vehicles, and the DUI statute is written for anything other than all vehicles, it is less clear that a court will apply the DUI statute to bicycles.
In Louisiana [State v. Carr, 761 So.2d 1271 (2000)], the Louisiana Supreme Court found that there was an ambiguity in the larger statute of which their DUI was part that suggested two reasonable interpretations where “other means of conveyance” could mean motorized or non-motorized conveyances. Due to this ambiguity, the principle of lenity – that ambiguous criminal statutes should be strictly construed in favor of the defendant to ensure that they provide fair warning of what is criminal, led the court to conclude that a bicycle was not an “other means of conveyance.

Lol at showing cops my driver's license at warrantless checkpoints.
SCOTUS has already ruled checkpoints legal if they follow certain guidelines.

Sorry thought this was a thread about a checkpoint in NOLA.

The checkpoint is constitutional
Yea that's fine. Did I say they weren't?

I agree that cops can sometimes go too far, but you're trying way too hard to start needless shite.
I really wouldn't laugh out loud in a cop's face if he asked to see my license. I wouldn't video tape anything for YouTube or get an attitude. I would just politely decline his request.

No. Not a cop and not a doorman at a private establishment. Random dude on the street.

No, but you complained about them being warrantless. If you acknowledge that they are in fact constitutional, why does it matter that IYO they're warrantless?
And why would you laugh at the idea of showing an officer the ID for your privilege to drive when he is operating within the framework of the constitution? Since according to the quote you accept it is constitutional.

Well I think we both know those situations are nothing alike.

That is all fine and good but we live in a Democratic Republic and that is part of our governance system. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life but it sickens me when people of my own party say "Obama is not my president"/. I don't like Obama or any of his policies but he is still my president whether I like it or not. If you don't like the way things are going run for office or truly support a candidate you believe in. Bitching on the OT or in a corner accomplishes nothing.

You're either a 1L in law school or a senile old man who knows everything about the law/constitution without ever having actually studied it. Hard to tell these days.

You're right. I phrased that incorrectly. My issue is with them asking to see my ID.. not with the checkpoint.
The original article says they are "reminding" drivers to have their driver's license. Why? People shouldn't need reminders for this. They want to "avoid any unnecessary delays." This insinuates to me that they plan on asking to see everyone's driver's license.
