I watched First Class again last night, and it really just made me depressed about what's happening to days of future past.

And now they've announced that Singer is going to piss all over the storyline that got me into comics in the first place, Age of Apocalypse.

I don't understand all the hate Singer gets on this board.

X-men 1, 2 and First Class were good movies. Singer left for Superman and took the actor who plays Cyclops with him and thats why X-men 3 killed Cyclops off in the first 10 mins and sucked arse.

I haven't watched any of the Wolverine movies because they seem terrible but I don't think Singer is involved with them either, which is why I really don't understand why everybody shits on Singer.

The best X-men movies are the ones hes done

He wasn't the main guy for First Class. First Class was supposed to break away from the old movies. Then he takes over and brings everyone back.

1. Hasn't happened yet

2. Wasn't an X-men movie

3. I don't even know what that is

My point was that X-men movies without Singer have sucked, while the ones with Singer have been good

I don't hate Singer. I just really like the X-Men, particularly the great X-Men like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Cannonball, real Iceman, etc.

Not a Singer movie.

Yes these were all good, but yeah FC wasn't his.

Problem #1 and a BIG one.

Except he left the film high and dry, he's cut down all the great characters to focus on Wolverine and Jean, possibly the lamest X-Men honestly, Magneto and Professor X, who, I'm sorry I do enjoy Patrick Stewart in the role, is overrated. (Ok that's going a bit far. I do like what he's done with Jackman and I do like Jackman in the role, but he's focused way too much on Wolverine.)

Were his movies good? Certainly. Were they good comic book films? Yes. Were they good X-Men movies? No. Not even close. He has flashes of brilliance, most of which are in X2, but he isn't consistent, and again, he focuses on the wrong characters or he completely misrepresents them.

Where is the Strong, pseudo-Royalty of Storm? Where is the decisive pragmatism of Cyclops? The naivety of Iceman? The Real Rogue (maybe the greatest X-Man of them all, maybe)? It's really sad.

Not to mention, DOFP, the Greatest X-Men story of them all, looks bad. I'm trying to go in without expectations, but that's tough when Quicksilver, Bishop, the Sentinels, the fact that there are 4 new X-Men, none of which are good choices, the storyline, etc. All look terrible.

I don't hate Singer, he's a fine film maker who's made some capable comic book movies. But there's so much personality in the X-Men, he's just completely missed that part, and that's the most important piece of the puzzle.

He'd need a very effective stunt double with a martial arts background. Olsen is a bit too goofy for the role IMHO.

I could picture a scenario where Thanos comes to destroy everything, and Loki somehow uses him to do his dirty work

I figure Loki really doesn't care much about anything so long as he gets to rule Asgard.

In fact, I am pretty convinced that the Battle of New York in The Avengers was nothing more than an elaborate ruse. That's why all those Chitauri dropped dead when the portal closed and why they didn't just send in all of their monster flying worm carriers at once. Loki planned on losing that battle the entire time just so he could "sneak" back into Asgard in plain view.

Remember, his mission was really only to get the Tesseract and he accomplished that in the first 5 minutes of the movie. More than once he battles members of the Avengers yet he does little to defend himself and never attempts to escape even though he has ample time to do so.

He could have just run off as soon as he jacked it early on but he stays on Earth. He was explicitly told he would be hunted to the ends of the universe if he fails yet nobody comes looking for him in Thor 2.

He knows that if he stirs up enough shite Odin will send Thor via dark magic to retrieve him due to the destruction of the bi-frost. He needs this to happen to that Odin's power is drained when he attempts his eventual coup.

Now that he has control of Asgard its really just a question of if that is all he wants. He can gain entry into Odin's vault to retrieve the Tesseract and the Infinity Gauntlet at his leisure for Thanos.

If Thanos becomes a threat to Asgard, I think he will be forced to drop his cover as Odin and help the Avengers.

Because of CA2 , I went back and wiki'd damn near 8 hours worth of marvel universe storylines. I never read a comic besides Gambit. I don't know much other than the movies recently and xmen.

That being said, I want a god damn civil war series.

That shite would RAKE in the money. Even if it was complete shite. But if done right, as in CA2 and Avengers, epic wouldn't even suffice as the adjective needed to explain it.

So in terms of next characters to see in films, now that Ant-Man is out there in public. My list:

1. Dr. Strange ( Can support his own film)
2. Black Panther (Can either support his own film, or Wakanda can be the location for a Cap movie)
3. Wonder Man - Although he might make a better TV show
4. Captain Marvel - Carol is such a great character
5. Moon Knight - Just pure awesome
6. Mockingbird - Would be a great side character post-Widow

There are a ton to choose from but these would be my tops for both favorite heroes (Moon Knight) and ability to fill a role that will lack someone (Mockingbird), or just because it will be awesome on screen (Strange and Black Panther)

Great list.

My personal #1 would be Deadpool. (Must be an R rated action/comedy)

Mockingbird is Hawkeye's wife, so you can't leave that part out. Then again, Ororo Munroe is T'Challa's queen...

Ex-wife, I think. I know him and Jessica Drew (Spider Woman) had a thing as well.

I want a Netflix series based on the current Hawkeye series, with someone other than Renner playing the character. Keep it in line with the comic and have it only tangentially related to anything else, if at all.

Agreed, but X-Hero

Ryan Reynolds is on the last age range of being able to do it. Any older and he's out. And he's the perfect Deadpool, I don't know why they never ran with it. Probably Singer's fault.

Did you read the Fawcett comics from 1939-50ish? If not, there's really no back to this since Shazam didn't go back into publication in 1972.

And Marvel should own the phrase "Captain Marvel," that's just natural.

Not really, since Marvel didn't put "Marvel" into any of its characters names until they intentionally co-opted the name of another company and creator's creation.

Fawcett's Captain Marvel has one hundred times the importance of Marvel's Mar-Vell. You're talking about a superhero who was the top selling character of his day versus a character created as a name grab.

Because it was already taken. Shazam was 1939.

You mean the same Captain Marvel who DC went after for copyright infringement? He's important? Granted he's a long standing character, but that's about all he's got going for him. And yeah he's way more important than Mar-vell. I wouldn't argue that. But that doesn't matter.

Of course it was a name grab, that doesn't make it any less natural.

I'm lucky in that I've always been an Avengers (and Avengers members in their solo books) fan so I've gotten most of the characters I like. As a kid I think the first book I followed was Thor, followed shortly by Captain America, Iron Man, and then Spidey and Daredevil. And of course Avengers, both the then current adventures and reprints of their early ones in Marvel Triple Action. And Hawkeye is probably my favorite individual character.

So, I don't begrudge anyone's wishes to see their favorite characters on the screen. But out of your lists the one I would really like to see are Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Dr. Strange might work but they'd have to make sure they did the right movie for him. Wonder Man, while I thought he was an OK character, I don't know about a movie with him (especially with his buddy Beast being with another studio). Moon Knight never appealed to me and Mockingbird I always found blah. (BTW: did the name Bobbi Morse come up in one of the earlier Avengers related movies? I seem like I can almost remember that but I'm not sure).

Now if I was to indulge what I'd like to see - I'd really love a Champions movie. But then again, Angel and Iceman are with other studios, Hercules who knows (I guess he's public domain?), I'm not sure who owns the rights to Ghost Rider. Black Widow would be available though.

Now, I would love to see Power Man/Luke Cage. (if Iron Fist was part of the movie I'd be ok with that but I'd be fine if he was left out too).
