LSU signs with Demarini. Demarini produces a hybrid wood bat with composite handle. The name of the new stick? The Corndog. Hmmm...

Yes Russian. It's been thought of. But for example: how many times over how many years did really smart people talk about college football playoffs in d1? Since its not earth shattering new ideas do we just stop trying to help college baseball?

There are lots of wood composites out there. Have been for a while. But while they don't break, their effectiveness decreases very rapidly and they're much more expensive than real wood

You think its possible because LSU can afford it. Most schools lose money on baseball already.

Just thought it was funny they came out with "The Corndog" after signing LSU. C'mon that's funny.

alright. I'll give you that. Thought you were making a case for it to be a realistic alternative.

Ok. I'm done. Where there is a will there is a way. Right now college baseball sucks

No not at all. Wood is impractical.

They're working on it. Changing the ball is the next step. They'll give it three years and see if the game has balanced back.

They changed the bats in the name of safety. That by itself means they can never go back. The ironic thing about wood though is that it has a higher spring constant than the current metals meaning the ball comes off faster. But it's less forgiving because the sweet spot is small. My point is that wood is no more "safe" and It's still much more expensive.

Another point to consider is that MLB and then the minor leagues will all get the best quality wood first and the college would get whatever is left.

although there is plenty of wood for all the bats and then some, there would be some crooked marketer contriving a shortage just to drive the price up. welcome to America.

Back in the sixties, seventies and before wooden bats were used from little league up by everybody. Now if little leaguers could learn brand up and afford wooden bats. I just don't understand it. As mentioned top quality composites and metals are extremely expensive.

Brand up doesn't stop them breaking. And youth and high school baseball is completely different. Seasons are longer. Pitchers throw harder. Kids and teams play year round. The expensive metal bat is expensive but a good one will last 2 years easily.

Plus you have a warranty so that bat is really 2-3 bats for one price.

they would have to buy multiple bats for 1 player.

They already do this with metal bats.

Baum bats are cheaper than aluminum and rarely break . Also , the Baum company , like the bat companies now , would give the bats away , like they do now . The ncaa won't Chang anytime soon though . So it doesn't matter
