It wouldn't matter fans would start complaining that nobody hits home runs and it's all about the small ball now and we would be right back to where we are now.

The MLB will never consider paying for over 300 schools to have wood bats throughout the year. Even if they wanted to, that's millions of dollars.

Youre looking at the costs of it being over $1200 per player...

that's being very generous. saw an article recently that said the average MLB player uses a new bat every 10 at bats. that's, ballpark, about 20 bats per player every year, at least for a college team

You have to realize that we're not talking about MLB players. Take the hitters on just the teams in the top ten in the polls. These guys cap balls and get jammed all the time. Then take into account the "bad" teams with even worse hitters. And you're not just using them during the game. There are 40 times more teams than those teams in the top ten.

Why do people think wood bats out hit BBCOR?

1. The MLB players swinging the wood are the best hitters in the world. Hence being MLB players.
2. They are hitting a ball that bounces off of ANY bat faster.

Five to ten or so a week, and that includes the weeks of fall practice, preseason, indoor batting cage BP and games.

You can't seriously believe you have just come upon a cost factor that has eluded the notice of every college baseball coach in the country.

again, that's what i'm saying. it's a moot point because the mlb would never provide the funding. i don't know why you keep responding when we're saying the same thing

I would think some bat company would love to basically sponsor d1 baseball and sell a metric ton of wood bats at a decent price don't y'all?

They'd go out of business because it would never be cheap enough

No.

Again, you think those types of arrangements haven't been explored already?

Companies are lining up to do this. NCAA just hasn't decided on which one of the dozen companies to choose from

Agreed Russian. I'm sure I just didn't have an idea that folks smarter than me have bantered about. BUT. I do think savvy ways of funding could be a key in the deal. I'm afraid college baseball will fall off the map soon if we don't at least talk about it

let's say they get a deal to get bats for $100 a piece. each batter goes through 20-25 bats a year. Let's just say you have 15 batters on the team. That's 30 grand per team, just for bats. Multiply that by 300 college baseball teams. That's $3,000,000 per season. And again, that's being very generous. Find me a bat company willing to donate that kind of money every year.

You gotta factor in A LOT. The bat wouldnt be used in only games. You have practice, BP, in the cages, etc.

And it doesnt just break when it snaps in half. A small, hairline fracture in the barrel will make the bat weak and you wouldnt be able to use it.

and LSUfball... your math is off $30,000 per team x 300 teams....
