Arnie, the documentary

Prolly movie board, but this should be where the golfers congregate.

There they go talking on TGC how Arnie always took the time to make his signature legible.

In 1994, I had the pleasure of working the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa as a spotter/scorer for CBS.

We did marathon coverage the first two days for CBS and their broadcast partners. I think it was on Friday, that Chuck Will, the CBS Associate Producer and my CBS boss had me on the tee of a par 3 on the front nine. My responsibility was to pass the club that the players were hitting on to him so he could in turn pass it on to whoever was announcing that hole.

It's about noon in Tulsa in August and I'm on the tee when Arnie's group approached the tee. The group in front hadn't even reached the green so I knew there would be some time before Arnie teed off. After he got some water, he was standing on the tee and I approached him and introduced myself, told him what I was doing for CBS and concluded by thanking him for everything he had done for golf. I concluded by saying "Thanks for the memories." He looked at me and laughed and said "Does Bob Hope know you're using his material?"

We both laughed and then he proceeed to step up to the tee and hit it stiff and make birdie.

What a memory.
