Visiting NYC Friday-Monday for some needed R&R. I'm looking for some good ideas and things to do outside the classic tourist circuit. I did those things in April 2013 but I honestly fail at planning/researching for this trip.

So far my list of events are:

Yankees vs. RedSox (3rd base line, Friday and Sat)
Magic vs. Brooklyn Nets
Dangerfields Comedy Club
Comedy Cellar
Guided Metropolitan Museum Tour (didn't do guide last time).
Museum of Natural History.

Any other ideas? I tried to Fallon/Letterman/etc tickets but of course they were outside my planning abilities. Also, don't really care about that.

I think I'm also going to hang out and study at some coffee shop around Central Park or something. But I heard the place is actually pretty shady.

Walk around Columbia. You're a fan after all.

Book of Mormon
Le Bernadin

Also, if you have been enjoying Cosmos on Fox recently, the planetarium at the History museum has a really cool exhibit going on right now.

I am helping my brother in law build a deck on Sunday. You are more than welcome to come help.

Seriously, if you are looking for something a little odd then check out Sleep No More.

I did Letterman while I was in NYC, terrible mistake... Horrible use of time.

Have you checked out Brooklyn Bowl? Its right next to Brooklyn Brewery. So you get 2 options.

3 major league sporting events sounds like overkill.

Definately don't go to Letterman/Fallon. As previously stated, way too much of a time killer. Made my first trip up in Feb to work the Super Bowl and boy did time fly haha hardly did anything, but we did go to the Museum of Natural History, Central Park during 8 inches of fresh powder (awesome!), Times Square, Flat Iron Building, Madison Square Park and Soho. Brooklyn, particularly Dumbo and Williamsburgh, is great for late night bar hopping. We had a blast doing that then hung out on the East River till 3 AM. Museum of Natural History is worth a half day, although it deserves a full day, plus there is no real admission, only "donations" (you pay what you want to pay). Yanks/Sox would be cool and seeing the Barclays Center would be on my list also. We spent like 6 hours walking through Central Park the Monday after the Super Bowl just wondering through there while powdery snow was falling. That was probably the highlight of our trip outside getting in the game. Enjoy it though!

I'll be in NY from Monday the 14th until Monday the 21st with my wife. I'm getting really excited for this trip. First timer.

I know this is heresy, but Letterman is terrible, and he absolutely sucks live. There, I said it.

The wife and I went to NYC a few years ago over the holidays for a little Thursday through Sunday long weekend and were fortunate enough to get Letterman tickets. We ended up sitting on the second row middle and it was the unfunniest hour of my life.

I'm not sure how it's changed with his recent announcement, but Letterman tickets have been pretty easy gets the last few years and were no trouble at all for us when we went. Get Fallon tickets if you can come by them.
