So before I got married/kids, basically throughout college and after college, I worked as a baseball umpire / football referee. Mainly youth sports leagues. I called a few JV games, but I would say 90 percent of them, at least were youth games.

Most associations are begging for help. You can get trained. The pay is decent, and it's all nights and weekends. 10 years ago, I was getting $65 for a double header, which took maybe four hours.

Plus, there were two other benefits. It forced me to stay in shape, and it allowed me to stay involved in sports.

Of course you have to have really, really thick skin. =)

Absolutely this.... easy money....have done it off and on for years because I enjoy it.

My dad just started doing this part time in the Nashville area, working mostly JV games. He's really enjoying it so far and it was pretty easy for him to get started. All he had to do was attend a few training sessions and pass a test.
