some issues in StL but WRs might have the second highest bust rate of 1st Rders after QBs IMO
rotoworld on Austin-
Austin was a disappointment as the No. 8 overall pick, posting a 40-418-4 line while playing on just 50.5 percent of his possible offensive snaps. The Rams must do a better job of getting him in space. "I think another year in the program, in the offense, OTAs, training camp, you’ll see more production," Fisher said. Getting Sam Bradford back healthy will help, but Austin dropped too many passes and too often failed to make big plays in small areas last season. Mar 31 - 10:24 AM
Highly drafted and disappointing WRs-
A.J. Jenkins #30
Brain Quick #33
Jon Baldwin #26
Heyward-Bey #7
Nicks #29
Britt #30
Donnie Avery #33
Ted Ginn #9
Meachem #27
Craig Davis #30
Braylon Edwards #3
Troy Williamson #7
Mike Williams #10
Matt Jones #21
Mark Clayton #22
Roy Williams #7
Reggie Williams #9
Michael Clayton #15

Every guy on that list had there issues heading into the draft. Plus, many of those receivers went to poorly run organizations. It's not always the fault of the player for not panning out. The coaching staffs are just as responsible for player development as the player is. If your organization & coaching staff is a shitty mess then guess how the players who are supposed to develop under them will turn out?
We have been blessed to have turned that corner under Payton & Loomis. They have made it a habit of developing players & getting the most out of those players especially on the offensive side. Defensively, that's been a different story but part of that has been the inconsistency at defensive coordinator. That seems to be resolved at this point.
Back to Austin. He wasn't a number one type receiver. He's a piece you add to an already solid corp to bring explosiveness & big play ability. He will prove his worth if the Rams get better at QB & put some quality receivers around him. At this point in time, his ability to maximize his potential is limited due to the reasons I've already listed.

I researched this topic yesterday and was surprised to learn that's not the case.

On the other hand, defensive ends and outside linebackers are just as likely to fall into one of the bottom two buckets as quarterbacks. Pass rushers may be in high demand but they’re not any safer than quarterbacks.

What I got from this list is don't pick a WR in the 1st round who has the last name Clayton or a last name that has Williams in it. If you avoid those players, you decease the chance of a bust by 33%.
