I saw a segment on MSNBC about modern day affirmative action and it got me thinking. I'm of the strong opinion that my generation, "generation X" should be the last generation to contend with Affirmative Action. I think the "Millennial's" and whatever you call this brand new generation that my niece and nephews are in, are truly beyond the need for Affirmative Action". There once was indeed a great need to right American society but these new generations are beyond that bull shite and i don't want my niece and nephews to have to contend with it. Anybody care to opine?

Affirmative Action
Another name for government sanctioned racism. It's an anachronism and it needs to be chucked once and for all onto the ash heap of history.

AA is a very charged term today, can you be more specific as what you are referring to?

I'm definitely pro-diversity, though.

As long is there is a significant difference in cognitive ability (g) test scores on personnel selection tests between whites and blacks/hispanics, there will probably be a need for affirmative action.

Is affirmative action required to thwart racism or needed to bolster those who cannot compete on a level playing field?

that'd be true if this board's posters weren't the ones doing the hiring.

What job is it you want you can't get because a black man got it?

Affirmative Action = Reparations for slavery = "spread the wealth around". It will only go away when the Latinos become a strong voting block and get pissed at carrying the water for underperforming Blacks. Whites don't get to make the call; they're tainted.

Your great-great grandchildren, if they choose to remain in this country, will live with Affirmative Action.

It will never go away. Never.

I'm not saying it's good or bad, I'm just saying that it is permanent.

My children(ages 4&6) will be long dead and blacks will STILL be demanding affirmative action and white guilt liberals will happily portray anyone against it as racist. You can take that shite to the bank.

You might think that as blacks rise as a percentage of the nation's population that wouldn't be the case but actually, the more votes they represent, the greater effort the left will go to make sure that they maintain that 95% voting block.

Yeah I disagree completely. There never was a need for affirmative action. It sure hasn't worked either other than giving us Obama. That's working out just fine.

How about good old fashioned meritocracy?

We're capitalists, right?

Company A only hires based on race, regardless of qualifications. Company B takes the best and most qualified for the job, with no regard to race.

Which company will succeed?

The government should probably begin phasing out affirmative action and set asides, but for personal reasons I'd like that to begin after 2022. Private companies of course should still be encouraged but not required to be diverse.

Thank everybody for participating in this thread. I just wanna leave it at i truly believe modern day American society is so money obsessed that whoever can make people more money will get the jobs or attention in this capitalist society. Your race doesn't matter any more. Green is the color that matters..........
