It is basically a "must have" for any new age AR owner.

Every Gen 2 mags I can remember buying came with a dust cover.

I have a number still in the package (just in case), Bap - no dust cover.

I'm trying to migrate to all Gen 3, windows, black, for standardization, but, I think I'll be printing magazines before I need "more".

Why would anyone buy a colored magazine?

I dunno, they want them? Goes better with the overall color scheme of the gun? Or maybe a more practical purpose like ease of differentiating between multiple calibers or ammo?

Makes it easy when I'm going to the range that I just grab my FDE mags for my 300 and black ones for 556.

Ouch. That stings.

My older ones that came with covers must be Gen 1 mags then. I ordered the majority of them off Midway if that matters.

Gen2 did have dust covers but the gen2 MOE ones are the dust cover free ones and gen 3 has dust covers.

The dust covers from gen 2 will not fit the gen 3

If you keep your PMAGS loaded you should keep the cover on it. The mag will be damaged after sitting loaded without the cover.

That being said, I prefer the Lancers over any other polymer mag. Teflon coated aluminum STANAG (USGI) mags over all. Tier 1 operators don't rock plastic cartridge feeding devices.

Good thing I'm so tactical I'm above tier 1.

There are varying opinions on this. For every link that says it will cause damage, you can find 2 links that say it doesn't. I'm with the "it won't cause damage" crowd.

I'm trying to decide whether to pick up a few USGI mags (probably will be some NHMGT or D&H), but they do seem so delicate.

I have first hand experience with broken feed lips on PMAGS. Keep them loaded in places with varying temp and had a couple break. I am also very hard on AR mags.

Came across a bunch of the HK mags about 8 years ago and got as many as I could. These are smooth and indestructible.

They are a little longer and have a full weld.

I just look at the rounds but whatever floats your boat. If you can't tell the difference between a 300 Win Mag and a 5.56 by looking at the round on top you ae in trouble.

I don't even want to know how much these would run someone. Are they steel or aluminum?

Again, I would think this is the exception, rather than the rule. Truth be told, there isn't a mag out there that hasn't failed at some point. I'm convinced that the pmag feed lip issue is few and far between. As with anything that is produced on such a massive scale...there will be issues every once and a while.
