Don't know where you live but I think your escrow is a little lite....
400k home Mandeville

1280 house note
520 escrow (but I don't escrow)

More realistic. (Unless you live in country)

However, Texas has no state income tax. There is no argument here, we(South La) get screwed on housing compared to Texas. Our suburbs(Metairie), enjoy your circa 1960 1,800 sq ft house for 240,000 that is blocks off of major highways with no true neighborhood. Their suburbs, enjoy your circa 2010 house that is 2200 sq ft for 240,000 that is in a drive in neighborhood with a community center, pool, and possibly golf course

Your numbers aren't even close to being accurate FYI. I know because I have a home in Houston and I know what pay in my escrow each month.

But what you fail to mention along with the higher property taxes is that in BR you can send your child to some run down piece of shite school in the ghetto where they can barely teach students to add or you can be in Katy ISD like me and send your child to school at one of the best school districts in the state of Texas.

Enjoy that great Louisiana public education!!11!!

You're forgetting no state income tax, no private school tuition, lower homeowners insurance. I pay almost $4k a year for homeowners in Nola. My buddy's property tax is way more than my property tax, but he still comes out ahead b/c his hohomeowners is like $1k. Plus he wont have to spend $7k+ a year on Catholic or privates for a decent education.
