It's funny pot is generally illegal, but some of the really evil shite is perfectly legal. Oxycontin and hydrocodone has destroyed two beautiful people very close to me. Both situations started with a prescription from a Dr after surgeries.

If there is anyway possible, don't ever take an opiate. Just don't do it. You might be one of those unfortunate few who has their perfectly functioning brain wired a little differently, and become an addict with the first pill you take.

Imho, this statement is part of the problem with the anti-legalization crowd (not a slight to you, you support legalization ). The fact that many people assume that most people that smoke pot are stoners is flat out wrong. No one assumes that if you drink alcohol you are an alcoholic. Pot should be treated the same as alcohol. Should you smoke pot and drive? No. Should you smoke pot and go to work? No. And most people would follow those rules.

I also think saying you can only smoke marijuana to get high as a negative is incorrect. If it was legal, I would most likely use edibles instead of smoking. I liked using marijuana in college since it would help with stress and migraines.

I don't smoke pot. The only drugs I really do are alcohol and caffeine.

Whether or not pot is a net-positive or a net-negative for society is irrelevent. Freedom is relevant. Let people decide for themselves what they want to do with their lives.

We shouldn't need a monetary reason to be pro freedom.

I'm not a big fan of Pot Culture. I pretty much rejected it by age 15 after much stonage. To me, it's like Swinger Culture-it tends to be flaky and cheesy and loaded with losers posing as heroes. It may be a step forward for personal freedom, I have favored it's legalization since the 1980's when William F. Buckley persuaded me, and all my stoner friends shamed me.

All this with a bottle of GlenLevit 12 in your sig. Not ironic to you at all (rhetorical)? Hell, you could have been describing the people at most wine tastings, if not for the direct reference to "stonage". A vice is a vice, albeit weed, wine, or liquor. They are ALL crutches, as you previously stated, when abused. And all ok with responsible, moderate use. I understand that stereotypes are born of truth in most cases. So you generalizing stoners based on your own experience is normal. My personal experiences with alcoholics are tendencies of violence, infidelity, and self destruction. But I'm not short sighted enough to braodly classify all drinkers as such.

but let's not pretend it's some high expression of humanity. It's base and pedestrian, at best.

We talking about weed, scotch, or any mind altering substance in general? And why the differentiation?

Thirty year ago plus some my brother the oncologist was recommending his chemo patients to smoke weed after treatments.

ETA he told my sisters to take our grandmother out to the front porch, after mom left for work, to start her day with a buzz. After her second treatment she declared it as good.
