How good would LSU have in the last 6 years if Tony Bennett had been offered?

Yep - current UVA head coach Tony Bennett who was led Virginia to a number one seed and was ACC coach of the year begged Joe Alleva for the job after the Brady exit. Alleva wantedt to take LSU in a direction and named Trent Johnson the head coach.

Another feather for Allev'as hat.

The better question is why wasn't Phil Jackson hired.

These stupid threads are so predictable. LSU loses at any sport, then the "how good would we be if ____ were the coach". I didn't see any of these when we were ahead by 10 in the first half last night. I didn't see any of these after we beat Kentucky on that icy Tuesday night. Threads like this show borderline mental retardation. DUh....ok...LSU loses....fire everybody! Derrrrr

Who in the frick knows how good LSU would have been under Tony Bennett....Larry Brown....Adolph Rupp...John Wooden...or Shaka Smart. But it shows an IQ level of 22 to be "that guy" who starts the "what if" thread the day after a loss.

The move from Washington State University clear across the country is a bit of a surprise to fans and players alike, and specifically because it is to the University of Virginia. Virginia hasn't had a good couple of years, and finished last season with a record of 10-18. It was thought that Tony Bennett would stick around at WSU, after turning down suitors that included LSU, Marquette, and Indiana just to name a few.

I emailed Joe Alleva before Johnny Jones was hired asking him to please take a look at Baylor's Scott Drew. I am not saying we could have gotten him away from Baylor, However i am not sure that he was even given an offer, and of course my email was never returned and probably not even read.

Tony Bennett came up in our family brunch this past sunday. My aunt knows his wife and he did in fact interview/express interest, but to say he "begged" for the job is hyperbolic.

You just hate Alleva, so it's much easier for you to say he was on his hands and knees begging for the gig.

Well, LSU may not have won a lot of games with Tony Bennett still, but he could at least lift their spirits by song! Every time-out, he could have the whole crowd singing along to "I Left My Heart in San Francisco"!! No doubt he'd be the envy of college basketball!!

So Alleva falls into a program with a LEGEND (Coach K) and that automatically bestows on him the magical gift of hiring legendary coaches in his future jobs???
