Denver Panhandler Story

What do you think cities should do to crack down on panhandling?

Be brutally honest

people should stop giving money. if you want to be charitable, offer food. if they refuse - they arent hungry enough.

My brutally honest assessment is that those numbers sound like total bullshite.

quote:

confidential interviews with panhandlers indicating that they make between $35,000 and $100,000 tax free per year and view panhandling as the equivalent of a job or a profession. Some even have homes and support families on their panhandling income.

And confidential interviews with OTers indicate that they make an average of $250,000 per year (after tax) and bang 9.5s on a weekly basis.

I have said it for years panhandlers are con men praying on peoples good nature. They choose to live the way they do.

Absolutely nothing.

There would be an issue if they were getting that money through coercive means but people aren't being forced to give it up so there's no issue here.

I remember hearing a similar story of pandhandlers in houston making cheese just like that. I recall one that drove to and from his spot in his new Cadillac. This was years ago, but nothing has changed with this "Profession".

Don't give those bastards a dime...

I gave a couple of them working the I12 exit corner on O'neal a prepared Ziplock full of food..
And he looked at me like I was some sort of a-hole...

I only give them money if I know for certain they are using it to buy drugs or alcohol. It's a win-win-win. I feel good about myself, they get high and as a result society benefits because they will die faster.

I heard that everyone wins in Vegas too!

It is just an urban legend that panhandlers make this much money. If you really could make that much money wouldn't everybody be doing it?

A friend of a friend lived in DC and would panhandle after he finished his work day. Apparently pulled in over 20k a year on the side. This was years ago.

A buddy of mine asked a bum in downtown LA where he slept at night. The bum said he had a house in the San Fernando Valley. One in Ft. Worth tried to buy $150,000 dollars in mutual funds. I beluve that story.

I give them the middle finger... They choose that lifestyle. I pay enough taxes for freeloaders.
