vs.

Libertarian Girl's quote:

quote:

It isn't generosity or charity that steals money from people to give it to the less fortunate. Generosity, and charity are personal strengths that come from voluntary interactions. Anyone can pretend to be generous and charitable with other people's money and the government's force behind them. It takes a truly brave person to willingly have those characteristics and act on them.

i also did a rare "comment on a liberal post" move this morning on that media matters pic:

quote:

pretending that you are generous with other people's money is not being generous. government is not charity. believing in doing good for people instead of relying on government is not a sign of a lack of compassion. it is the opposite

I guess it takes compassion as well to take my money against my will.

The problem with the first post is true charity is not derived from an immoral act, theft. Until liberal secularist realize that government has to commit immoral acts to achieve their ends we will never become a virtuous society where minimalist government is rarely needed. If society was based more on hope, faith and charity (Judeo Christian principals) the less government we would have.

I agree with her. People throw out the word "compassionate" in this situation as if it means something. It is a hollow usage of the word.

It isn't compassionate unless there is personal choice. Forcing someone to act in a way that you deem appropriate does not make you or the other individual compassionate.

I'd prefer my government show less emotion on both spectrums.. Emotion leads to rash decisions and unintended consequences that inevitable snowball into more emotion and more mistakes.. It's a perpetual wheel of uncertainty.

Was recently in Mexico, I traveled through a very poor area to get to a somewhat affluent resort area which since its development has provided thousands of jobs to people from the poor areas. I couldn't help but think that the typical liberal would see this as "inequality" that should be corrected. They would rather take everything from the affluent and redistribute it to the poor, or just have everyone be poor instead of the situation as it is.

By and large, the liberals I know are compassionate so they can make a big deal out of it and congratulate themselves on what wonderful human beings they are.

The people I know who are more conservative don't make a fuss over their compassion. They're compassionate because it's just the right thing to do.

Just something I've observed over the years.

To me, it looks like one worries about others vs one who is worried about their own money. Perfect view of Liberals and Republicans if you ask me.

you can accomplish the 1st with government.

You can accomplish the second by yourself for hardly anyone except your family.
