She may be respected in her district but most of the rest of the state views her as a giant embarrassment.

here is her quote, assuming that one can trust your source:
it's certainly possible that she is referring to the fact that the first permanent english settlement in the 13 colonies is around 400 years old. she went to UVA after all, and all the UVA grads i've ever met believe that virginia is the center of the historical and political universe. but to believe that SJL was referring to jamestown, one would have to take off the ideological/partisan blinders.
quote:
“Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not,” she said.

Me thinks the reason you are so familiar with ideological blinders is................

That was Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin.

Strategically drawn districts, like hers, are crippling America, imo. Republicans create a special minority district like hers to both stave off cries of racism and to help themselves gain even more districts by moving some Democrats out of Republican districts and crowding them into minority districts like hers. (over 70% Democrat) Democrats are their own worst enemy.
I wish we could undo all these districts and make them all be contiguous using common sense boundaries, with no-nonse and zero regard for race or ethnicity or political affiliation. No gaming of demographics with sophisticated GIS modeling.

Republicans are the ones to do this? I wonder when the last time Chicago districts were redrawn?

In regards to Texas's 18th district, what's your point? That its okay in Texas so long as its done elsewhere, too? That cycle of deflection is impossible to stop.
I said it was a nationwide problem. Do you really think it's cool beans for Republicans to do this so long as the other shitty mainstream party is doing it, too? If so, then you are truly a tool.

Sheila Jackson Lee- Constitution is 400 years old
Considering nearly half of the Republican party thinks the Earth is only a few thousand years old, even after this I think the Democrats still hold the lead in having the more accurate knowledge of when historical events occurred.

Because there are plenty of folks out there who actually believe Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her house.

I don't like SJL but I think an argument can be made that she was being unclear, not stupid in this instance.
