Why? Most veteran RB on the team. Always been underrated. Doesn't cost the sun, moon and stars. Fits the offense great and knows it as well as anyone not names Brees or Payton.
I hope Ingram gets more touches, as well as Khiry, but IMO Thomas was important to keep moreso than Sproles

Why? Will he be too old at the end of the extension? Because I can't think of a back I trust more to make a play than PT over the last several years.
iirc, reports right before playoff games said that he wasn't too injured, but benched due to production decrease in the run game.
I love PT as much as anyone, but he's going to be 33ish when he's done with the contract. He's a great do-it-all back, but his production slowly declined as the year went on. My fear is that it stays on the decline.
SP said he wanted to return back to the power run game and I just don't think PT is the best one of the 3 RBs to do that. Add on the fact that making PT the starter/ingram spotter it could result in being the same predictable offense (i.e. ingram in = run)

quote:When did Sean say that? It has been speculated, but I do not think he ever stated that. The extension was likely one whereby his salary gets turned into a bonus to stretch it out. I doubt he will play the last year of the deal when he is 32.

False. Part of the power run game and a balanced offense is being able to set up good screens. PT is the best screen back in the league hands down, and I'll take that to the bank.

Not saying you're wrong, and PT definitely had a rough stretch at the end of last season, but I don't remember any reports saying he was benched due to production.
I don't think anything not to like about this deal. We keep our most veteran, and versatile RB, and most likely are saving cap space.

He is always in the top of the NFL in yards after contact
