Weighted GPA, high schools give weights for taking honor/AP/IB/Duel enrollment classes.

I graduated with a 4.6 and my valedictorian had like a 5.3 it's ridiculous

Most high schools scale the GPA for AP courses taken. So if you get an A in an AP class, it counts as more than 4... I forget the actual number?

OP -Have your friend contact the admission department. With grades like that, her out of state will get waived for sure. Get the ACT over 30 and I would bet on a full ride.
