BHP, care to elaborate? No snark intended in my question. Just curious about what exactly makes you sad about this subject.

I hope you (nor anyone else) think I was expressing a view that was negative toward you (or them).

I DO tend to take a short breath when I see "blacks ____". But, I do understand.

Again, I've expressed my point of view enough to not feel the need to support my opinion here.

I'm just sad. My eyes are actually watering a bit.

You and I are reading two different threads then.

Yeah and everybody on here assumes its something wrong with blacks, couldn't it be the GOPs message, or its delivery of said message? Whatever happened to personal responsibility? I'm not saying thats the issue but its as if people don't even consider the flip side to the coin.

That it exists. That it is necessary. That it is truthful, That it is exaggerated, but not by a lot.

I have a father that is my hero. He has raised me to never me a "member of a group"

That does NOT decrease my emotions as I think about a "group"

I'm not in the mood to go much further. I trust that if you were to search my post history, you'd see I'm fair and fairly independent.

I'm not offended at all. If I were, I'd never suggest anyone owes me a damned thing for it.

I'm just saddened

I definitely didn't take it that way.....I think too highly of you for that. I was actually agreeing with you. I also find it sad, because I do wish that we could grow as an entire country and not just in segments.

Eloquent as usual.

"Blacks" is a broad brush painting fretwork.

I understand. I have more respect for you than you know. As I type this I am twenty feet from a 13 year old black boy who affectionately calls me " Mr.Dad", he is such a fixture in my home. I too get sad, especially when I ponder how it is that a sizeable portion of black Americans can opt out of full participation in American Society. That should be the goal, ALL races having similar opportunities and similar successes. Instead we have a Racial Grievance Industry and a political party that endeavors to endlessly fan the flames of racial strife. The Democrats, The Great Society and liberal victimology have done more to harm black Americans than any other entity. And it pisses me off that these frickers are the ones claiming the High Road while doing all the damage, and seemingly getting away with it. Liberal Paternalism wins, honest assessment loses. Every fricking time.

My sincerest apologies if I have offended you.

All valid points, and I actually agree that part of the problem is most definitely the delivery by the GOP. There are a lot of people (I'm one) that would love to see the gap bridged.

But make no mistake....the problem is on both sides.

I have a father that is my hero.

That makes all the difference. I was born poor white trash. But I had a dad who worked in the oil fields and came home every night at 7 pm from the marshes in West Cote Blanche, Henderson fields and beyond.

He smelled like oil and cigarettes but I didn't care. I ran to him and hugged him. He always had a pack of gum in his shirt pocket. I dug it out as my reward.

God knows how I would have turned out if I didn't have a dad. But I wouldn't want to see it.

As a conservative, I wish a day would come where color did not exist. Where everyone is hard working and wanting to achieve the American dream. Thats my wish!

I feel exactly the same way. Which is why I feel real sympathy for those children without fathers in their lives or who live in unstable homes. Its just not their fault.

Agreed. A check from the American Government and a paternalistic "attaboy" from The Democratic Party is no substitute for a proper Pops to kick your arse when you need it.

Perhaps the OP should enlighten the rest of us on why the Republicans lost the Black vote.

The Repubs' voters demand integrity, and the Dems can't define integrity as a rule. Please note last 4 words, "as a rule."!!!

not offended...not angry....just sad

You've been a member since 2004 & you are just realizing your buddies here are obssessed with certain 'members of a group'? A group I think you'll always be a member of .

Are you really sad because you believe they are telling some truth about 'your group' or because they are ignorantly painting a broad brush?

Or has this obsession with 'members of your group' became stronger post 2008 Presidential election? Because I realized it week 1 of posting here.

To be fair, I don't think these criticisms are aimed at educated black professionals.

There was nothing in the OP to indicate that a very broad brush wasn't being used to smear all Black folks, and because of this, I guarantee you that educated, middle class Blacks are just as offended by its premise as ghetto derelicts.
