What was their basis for that?

From what I have read independent experts analyzing the Immersat data that is available (they won't release all of it) are saying the infamous "arc" is basically wrong. You can Google this and read their findings. I read it and their theories seem plausible to me from what I can understand of the technical data.
So, as I have thought and stated on here numerous times, the Immersat arc is bullshite and has led the search team on a wild goose chase since its release.
The fact that they won't release the full satellite data for independent analysis furthers this theory imo.

Surprise, surprise: Pings at center of Malaysia Airlines search are no longer believed to have come from plane's black boxes, U.S. Navy official tells CNN. (cnn.com)

Where is this damn plane?

Followed this story and thread closely for a month. Damn shame there's still no answers.

I think it's sitting next to Amelia Earhart's plane.

Where's my buddy who said all the "evidence" pointed to it crashing? It seems to have been an awfully long time for zero wreckage to turn up.
I hope we get an answer to this eventually. It's mind boggling that in 2014 a passenger jet can vanish.

If that shite about 20 Chinese scientists is true we probably did take the plane somehow or some way.
None of the information that has come out on this seems to have been correct.

I will say this, if the plane is not on the bottom of the ocean somewhere, you can bet the US knows exactly where it is.

I said a billion pages ago it was in a hanger in Pakistan somewhere.
