West Monroe had a good run with a good coach but there time is done. Other schools will recruit the players they were getting and they will go back to being mediocre. Having said that, if they hired a guy like Tanehill, they have a chance at continuing to be good.

The freshman class from West Ridge are 32-0 the last 4 years. The 8th grade group has 6-7 kids that made it to the National Championship in the FBU tourney last year. WM's time is far from done.

Laugh all you want. You'll realize what I'm talking about in a few years if they don't hire a good coach who can recruit. WM needs to be able to pull kids who reside in Wossman and Carroll's districts to compete. Athletes who's parents they can convince to have their mail mailed to west monroe addresses.

A WM booster told me that Arledge was staying one more year and then stepping down. I dont know how legit he is though. Of course he deserves the job if he wants it.

The current Good Hope 7th graders are strong too. Last year the starting defense put together a string of 18 straight quarters without giving up a 1st down.

Arledge isn't a young guy. I don't know how much longer he has. He's earned the job IMO.

When he does leave I think they stay in the family. Personally I'd love to see Matt Middleton take over, but I don't know the likelihood. He's been OC at a few South Arkansas small colleges the last 6-7 years. Played under Shows at WM, spent some time at Evangel before becoming HC at Caldwell. Was run off because of politics because it damn sure wasn't due to results. Has been in Arkansas since. He's a young guy with the pedigree that could stay at WM for 30 years instead of a guy that only has a limited time left in their career.

Incredible how many folks outside West Monroe are experts on personnel, recruiting, coaching acumen and future success. We have a strong pipeline of middle school kids funneling into a talented coaching staff that understands how to construct a foundation for success. Not to mention when the time does indeed come to hire again, there will be a strong field from which to choose. Arledge is pretty darn good in the meantime, better than most.

This would be a fantastic hire. Would possibly bring back his dad to coach defense if Jerry left, or let Rob take it over. Nevertheless, they would be a great hands with Matt.

I hope he has changed his attitude since school, because he was a complete dick while at WM and that might have been what got him run off from Caldwell. His dad was an a-hole as well.

Seen him 6-7 times since and he's always welcomed me with a handshake and a hug. Seems to have calmed down a lot since high school. Being friends with him then, I know why he acted the way he did. I'd let him coach my kid in a heartbeat.

I like Arledge a lot, and he's a great coach, but the majority of his success is due to the fact that Shows let him hand pick the players for his defense.

I heard Shows say more than once that if he had Jerry's players, the offense would put up 70-80 points per game.

Is Arledge the right man for the job? I don't know. But I think he got a little taste of running the whole show this year, versus just running the defense.

I wouldn't say slipped. He wasn't really set up with a great situation. The schedule was much tougher than previous years. Also WM lost a TON of kids from the year before, pretty much the entire defense as well as the backfield. Other than Cam, only one player signed and that was with Arkansas-Monticello. Throw in the fact he lost his starting QB in week 7 and had a LB at the position the rest of the year, slip is a little harsh. I expect a bounce back year with a healthy Belton and much more experience on both sides.

Maybe it's because Shows set the bar so high but when's the last time a West Monroe team was shutout at home in the second round of the playoffs?

No doubt the year was a disappointment. To be honest I can't remember losing our top two QBs either though. If it's another down year we'll see what happens.

Their 8th grade went undefeated too. Good Hope had a great year.

Most likely, this is what Arledge is going to do.
Arledge is no spring chicken though, around 72 years of age. I know he some grandchildren coming up through the system though. He may want to hang around to coach them.

Shows was a special coach, not too many have had the success he has had. He is going to be extremely hard to replace with the success he brought to WM.

The expectations at WM are extremely high, the fans, boosters, and community want a state championship every year. The fundamentals at WM were built and put in place by Shows & Arledge.

The right HC could come in and carry on that tradition. I don't know if the current OC, Hunt, has that ability.
Scott Stone could come in and carry on the winning tradition at WM.

The word I have been hearing is that some of the big boosters at WM want to have a national search for a HC for WM.

They should go after Joe Spatafora at Farmerville. He has done a very good job getting that program back up.
