My generation helped usher in the Republican Revolution. The next, ushered in Obama. It is cycling back around.

That's a great link, Doc - it should be stickied to the top of the Poliboard forever.

I know there are worse kinds of American citizens, but isn't the hippie element of the Baby Boomer generation just pathetic? Talk about a group that lives their lives in fantasyland. And sadly, they make up a large portion of the present establishment.

I am very pro-gun. I might be considered radically pro-gun by some.
That being said, arguing semantics is a waste of time IMO. If a politician writes a law using the 'incorrect' definition of assault weapon then that definition becomes law.

Young people are used to seeing them in gun stores. Their friends have them. It's become normal.
I think it's more of a "Call of Duty" effect. They see them in their games and want them in real life.
In my last unit we use to have to do displays at air shows and conventions. The kids would constantly want to talk about the 240b or the EDM rifles and would always lead off with "I used that in call of duty".

Not without a shitload of documentation and say so by the ATF, we aren't...
So you agree that we ARE allowed to own assault rifles - with proper documentation.
You have a rather contentious way of showing agreement.

The problem with that document is that it is too obviously slanted. While many of the facts are true, when he says things like, "The truth about assault weapons is that there is no such thing." and “Prior to 1989, the term "assault weapon" did not exist in the lexicon of firearms. It is a political term, developed by anti-gun publicists to expand the category of "assault rifles." it hurts his argument. Prior to 1944 there was no such thing as an "Assault Rifle", it is a made up term (Sturmgewehr) coined by Adolf Hitler himself primarily for political/propaganda purposes. But just because someone coins a new term doesn't mean it has no meaning. ALL words came into our lexicon at one point or another.
My point is that there is no reason to make these statements, they do nothing to add to the argument, and only serve to expose an agenda. The argument for the continuing legality of AR-15s can be made without any mention of whether words have meaning or not. The numbers speak for themselves, and sometimes saying more actually subtracts from the argument.

IMHO, I beleive what most people thing about guns is how we were raised. I am assuming most of us were raised around them, hunting and recreational shooting and were taught to respect guns and what they are capable of. If your not raised around them I think some cannot comprehend respect for them. This so called "common sense gun legislation" is complete bullshite. If congress actually cared they would crack down on gangs and gang violence. If their idea of "common sense gun legislation" is Chicago or Baltimore, than they can kiss my arse. BTW, I love guns

We didn't have a gun in our house but most of my friend's houses had guns, my grandfather's house had guns, most people I knew growing up had at least one gun in there house. Funny I don't recall anyone with an assault rifle though.

Again I ask you, what is an assault rifle?

Assault rifle has a technical definition for a certain class of weapons. Assault weapon is the term for ignorance-based scare propaganda used by gun-control advocates.

Don't get your hopes too high, my fellow young folks can be very easily misguided on a number of issues, and most are still in that whole "ignorant to the world around me" phase.
Not trying to be a negative Nancy, this is definitely a win for us. PO is growing quickly to support 2-A rights and I think the trend in the courts has helped by strengthening and broadening them, which hopefully will continue b/c they either have or are currently hearing a number of 2-A cases this year that we should see opinions on come summer
