I am not too worried about it. We are in areas that we do have business in. If we didn't have bases and a presence in the ME then our energy needs would be vulnerable, in vietnam we had to stop (or try to stop)the spread of communism. The USSR and China saw that we would fight over nonvaluable areas like vietnam it keep them from attacking valuable ares like europe. Since we live in a world with a global economy we have to have a presence to protect our economic interests. It is not 1850 when we could just deal with stuff in our own country.

That is BS and has been proven to be BS. This logic that those people would not sell us oil unless we have a Navy fleet off their coast is BS. Whoever is telling you that is twisted. That is the ole logic of when the US government was working with oil companies to get control of ME oil--ie when we overthrew the democratically elected government in Iran.

That was the premise of the initial involvement but it became about LBJ saving face 50,000 dead drafted teenage Americans latter. I guarantee you if deaths were on the level of VietNam in Irag and Afghanistan the re-up would be nil.
