I'm talking about the crazy chicken chasing, drunken chaos on Tuesday. I will have my two young daughters with me. I see a video of some of the chaos, there is a lot of kids, so I figure fairly family-friendly atmosphere.

The actual run is Tuesday 7am-about 3ish.
To get good pictures I would park somewhere around hwy13 and hwy104. Get there early. Take some pictures. Play around.
Then find out from the locals about the route so you can travel to the next area. They throw and chase chickens near people's houses.
You will have a good time nearing the end of the ride if you can get to 6th street. Not Main Street that was mentioned earlier.
Riders will be good and drunk by then. Have fun. Be careful

I've heard it's not too family friendly, unless your kids don't care about chickens. One of my friends went last year and she was kind of appalled at the tradition but it is what it is.

Mamou ride leaves the American Legion hall at 7:30 a.m. Believe it or not, there is plenty of drunkenness at this point and it only gets worse. The ride returns down 6th street at 3 p.m. I'm from just down the road and have ridden in Mardi Gras rides all around the area for 10+ years. Mamou ride is by far the most rowdy, drunk, unruly, vulgar ride. With that said, I had the most fun on that ride compared to others which are glorified trail rides. The locals take their Mardi Gras ride (and the whole Mardi Gras shindig) very seriously. It's pretty much their Super Bowl, Christmas etc. Have fun!
