Anyone Get to Observe One of the St. George Petition Signings?

I ran across one at Ralphs the last two days. This last time I got to wait out front while the wife spent all my money and watch this guy asking people to sign. It was about 5pm I guess.
1. About half the people signed or said they'd already signed. The people I saw sign were older people and a few 30ish year old guys.
2. A few guys and one lady balked pretty hard at the guy when he asked them to sign. One guy flat out screamed at him. He handled it well.
When we left I commented to him that the petition volunteer job looked much harder than I thought it'd be. I'm surprised folks were openly hostile about it. He probably got 8-10 signatures in the 10-15 minutes I watched him. Based on his results and as long as this petition drive has been going on they've got to be getting close to the 18,000+ they need to get it on the ballet I would think?

Well once they got near the 10,000 mark, they stopped releasing the official # of signatures. While it may be legal to do so, You should wonder why it's necessary.

At least they're no longer using the fire department to push this ballet initiative.

Let's hope not. Just when BR is really on an upswing these St. George secessionist fools will turn Baton Rouge into a total shite hole in a few years and what happens to anything that comes near a black hole?

No, but made one of their people move a sign that blocked the view of traffic on Old Hammond.

How about we just fix the problems with our city instead of running away from them.....

I've driven past a few and they always seem to have a crowd.
The only one I stopped at to sign was at the very end of the allotted time, and they were friendly and did not seem annoyed at the last minute person (a person came along after me).
Based on the dates on the petition, they had gotten about 8 signatures for that day (including mine), so with the trailer, 9. It was not in a "high traffic" area, so I suspect they do better at other locations.
I plan to vote against it, but I do think the vote should take place.

I observed a petition signing when I went out of my way to find the signing and sign the petition. St. George all the way.

I don't think they will have any trouble getting the sigs they need.

I have never been to a petition signing where anyone was asked to sign. The locations for gathering signatures are set-up, and generally speaking, people come to the tables eagerly wanting to sign. Some have questions, some have concerns, and a tiny minority voice some form of opposition while passing by.

Fits the target market for the whole St. George BS, but also says it's not about schools or you wouldn't find the empty nester old people being the big market for it, and yet that's what they say it's about.
It's not. It's the same baby boomer mentality that go us in this mess in the first place, thinking they can run or put imaginary lines in the same. This is their last stand, and for their final closing number, they will end on dividing the city in half.
What a legacy.....

We should all ask this question.
Why should any unincorporated area in this parish hurt the City of Baton Rouge's budget if an any unincorporated area in this parish becomes a city?
If it hurts the Baton Rouge budget we got problems in Baton Rouge and are living way beyond our means in this city.
