Are you this obtuse? Posters in here believe that he should have no consequences. In order for that to be achieved the government would have to force others to accept it and not allow them to react.

Not necessarily. There can be no consequences if people just stopped getting so upset over stupid shite. The government need not be involved at all.

Huh? I was responding to the poster that said there should be no consequences. So he for the freedom of speech for Elkington, but wants to block others freedom to respond
The problem is the consequences and other side of the "freedom of speech" equation is largely pushed along by the media. The media feels the need to speak for everybody else in saying that type of behavior shouldn't be condoned until we just accept it and a certain person/behavior is blacklisted. FWIW i'm not really referring to this specific act at all. I just hate how the loudest 10-15 percents attempts to censor all dissenters.

This is a completely impractical way of thinking. You and I both know this has no chance of happening. Like i said in my first post, i hate the PC crowd, but i acknowledge its existence and will avoid putting myself in a position that could harm my career by doing something so moronic as tweeting

ETA: I would feel terrible for him if he was having a private conversation with friends and a media member heard a joke and went public with it. I feel no remorse when someone tweets it.

Point is he can say what he wants

Other people can get offended at whatever they want

Employers can take whatever action in response that they want.

In no way is he free from all consequences.

Same.

It may be. But I will never give up hope that people stop being actively offended by everything and just shut the frick and take care of their own business.

Agreed, not to mention the fact that it's not even remotely witty or funny.

I feel like it was more of a joke about ESPN and their reporting. Not a big deal, IMO.
