La/Ms. State Parks - Questions for the OB

The OB is way better than the websites for the state parks in La. and Ms. I come here for guidance.
I want to take my son to a park for a Fri-Sun trip where we sleep two nights. Would like trails for walking/biking, fishing from a pier and possibly from some kind of boat. I would like to stay at the park in a cabin. What is the best park within 3 hours of Baton Rouge?

Natchez State Park right outside of Natchez is worth a look. Trails, fishing and cabins. I went there a couple of weeks ago and it was nice. Deer everywhere too.

There are plenty out there but here is another vote for Natchez State Park. NSP is a gem that is usually not crowded at all.

Chicot State Park is a great park for fishing, hiking, etc. They have cabins, rv sites, tent site, pier fishing, & boat rentals. The park is beautiful & the lake is great also. (there are two types of cabins here, the nice ones that sleep a bunch of people & are new & directly on the lake. Then there are some older cabins which still are on the lake but on the more wooded end. These are not as "fancy" but still have all the amenities & some great views & interaction with wildlife)Another upside to Chicot Park, it is located in Ville Platte, you can make a smoked meat/boudin run while there.
Another place that is nice, small & a little out of the way, is Hodges Gardens. The state took the park over a few years back & has done some great things there. The cabins are nice & there are some rv & tent spots too. The lake there is really nice & has a lot of fish. YOu can't bring your own fishing rig but there are piers & you can also rent boats there.

I like Lake Fausse Point SP. They have plenty of stuff for a man and his son to do. Rent a canoe (I think it's $5-6/day) and pull it up to your campsite. The cabins there are really nice, but you can tent camp too. They have some primitive sites you have to take a canoe to that would be pretty nice too. Right now would be perfect, before the mosquitoes get stupid thick.

I would suggest Bogue Chitto state park in LA it is between Folsom and Franklinton. 1600 acre park with many trails, ponds to fish in and about 1-1/2 miles of the bogue chitto river pass through the park. In summer you can tube the river and there is a splash pad with slide for the kids. Also have a beach area.
