I went from really liking the show to loving it during the episode with Dutch and the serial killer confession. Just great stuff.

Almost a show within a show - when Claudette/Dutch catch the scent and start interrogating - it functions as a break from the Mackey/Strike Team, or Dani/Julian stuff, but it is great in and of itself.

The cuddler rapist (played by the great Clark Gregg) and the serial killer (played by Michael Kelly) were wonderful guest performances as villains for the detectives.

The show has tons of those performances during the run. Even Andre 3000 had a nice turn as a business owner tired of prostitutes and drug dealers scaring off his customers.

It's a very entertaining show. I got hooked way quicker than the Wire and the pacing is better. Thought about rewatching it again.

quote:

Mackey - Kind of a weird character, but I can dig it.

My only knock on him is that his personal code he set and expected others to follow seem to change for each episode or a few in a row. He's very narcissistic to the point of irritating that the writers made the abrupt change rather than let the character grow or we didn't get the see the reasoning. Sometimes the storyline gets a little far-fetched but still entertaining and keeps you emotionally involved.

That's kind of the whole point of the show - who does Mackey hate the MOST? Cop killers. That's clear in the hunt for Carl and Scooby's killers.

What did Mackey do at the end of the pilot episode? (No spoilers, but it's obvious, right?)

One minute he's doing "that" - the next he's saving babies. And he's a sucker for kids - if this is a Greek tragedy, (Chiklis is of Greek ancestry, ) - Vic's tragic flaw is the soft spot for children/babies.

I liked the early seasons the best. Less fun to me in later seasons. I saw the show as a dark comedy though.
Didn't care much for Whittaker. Anderson was excellent. Glen Close was excellent as well.

See, I'm liking better and better how this show handles the grey moral area and characters like Mackey. Much more convincing.

Kavannuagh is nuts and I hope he does down in flames regardless with what should happen to Vic.

I have 6 episodes left and it's been a top notch show throughout. Can't wait to see how they wrap it all up!

Why? His character was pulled off nearly flawlessly IMO

It's not Whittaker - I just didn't like Whittaker's character.
