I'm torn on this issue. On one hand I feel that all students should have the opportunity to learn and enjoy science equally lest some fall behind. On the other, at least this isn't forcing pseudoscience into the classroom, and the only students that are hurt would be those whose parents make that choice for them.

BTW, I know its a HuffPost article, but it was one of the better ones out there.

Do you think the people sponsoring this bill consider themselves libertarians or tea partiers?

On one hand you have zealots saying “Evolution by natural selection is the unifying principle in the study of biology,” and on the other "if it ain't in the Bible, it didn't happen noway."

Both are idiots.
The kids are the losers for it.

I think it's a good idea to let them opt out, that way the crazies are identified to everyone.

Since evolution is false, telling children there is no proof of it and that it is only a theory is a good idea.

You might want to read Professor Thomas Nagle's ( NYU ) newest book ( he's an atheist ) Mind Cosmos : Why the Materialist Neo Darwinian Conception of Nature is Almost Certainly False.

Or you might want to hear 30 year old words of Richard Leaky, the worlds leading fossil-anthropologist has to say about the “supposed link ” Lucy.

He said in 1983 that Lucy's skull is so incomplete that most of it is imagination made offend plaster paris, and that no firm conclusion could be drawn about what species Lucy belonged to.

THERE GOES YOUR SUPPOSED LINK.

The fact that there are large numbers of people in our society who think like this is absolutely terrifying.

This should not still be happening in a first world country in 2014.
