Back in the day most OTC cold medicine worked pretty good b/c they all had the good stuff in them back then. Alcohol, whatever is used to make meth apparently, and whatever else it was that made the stuff work. Nowadays my old standbys of Alka Seltzer cold or Nyquil/Dayquil just don't seem to work as well anymore. I used to love Theraflu, but I can't find it anywhere. Have they stopped making it?
What does the OT use for a bad cold and what works best?

Moonshine. You can still get the meth-lite stuff behind the counter.

DayQuil has alcohol in it, if that's what you are wanting.

Mucinex is good for cough.
For runny nose/congestion, I got the CVS brand "Severe Cold" stuff. Seemed to work well enough.

In case of stuffed-up nose, Afrin is a lifesaver. Nothing is more irritating than not being able to breathe through my nose, which then means I can't smell or taste. Stuff works like a charm, but you're not supposed to use it for more than 3 days.

I also take ColdEeze a lot. Not sure if it REALLY works, but even placebo effect is better than nothing when you get colds. I get them too often...

Mucinex D, hands down.

It's OTC, but like others said you have to show your ID to get it.

It dries your nose out in a hurry, and helps with the cough.

Sudafed PE, some warm lemon and honey tea...Lots of water and rest.

I did a lot of the others suggested here before, but a DR told me about this and it cleared my sinuses up fast. I used the warm honey and lemon for soothing and water to loosen the mucus in my chest. Was one of the fastest turnarounds I have had.

Netti-pot for nasal/sinus congestion. Swear by it. It's gross but it gets the mucus/flesh out

Alka Seltzer cold & flu. That stuff is a great otc med that I highly recommend for any ache, pain, sinus issue, fever, etc.

Eta: Emergen-C is pretty good too. Anytime I feel a cold coming on I take these 2 together and I've had great results.
