OB mechanic help, possible head gasket trouble

2001 Suburban 190K miles.

Was low on coolant but not much. Looks like white smoke coming from tailpipe but it was cold and I didn't want to run very long just in case. Didn't run but a few minutes this morning and the temp only got to 180.

I think head gasket. I'm thinking bring it in. What will they test compression?

Crank it up and let it run as long as it doesn't get over 200 degrees. After that kill it and check the oil. If oil looks like milk you have a problem.

check the oil cap. If milky inside of cap, then possible HG.

5.3 from the U pull it is $250.

Don't sweat it- drop another in it. It's not worth the headache.

ETA- I hadn't seen the waterpump resolution.

Just change it- at least you know that engine's history.

Ms. Dust hasn't done a whole lotta hot rodding with the scouts, has she?
