From what I read SG is a combination of two fire districts.East Side Fire and St George Fire. Nothing was created to carve out certain areas.

Mall of La. is in but so is Gardere Lane. The city isn't just high end subdivisions either, but there is a lot of big commercial areas that collect a lot of sales taxes.

And no not all the sales taxes are from SG residents, but neither are sales taxes collected by businesses inside BR city limits .

Don't think SG will happen, but it it did, Mall of La. Would be annexed back to City of BR. Other sales tax generators too.

Of course it would. Long before any SG vote, too.

The St George people need to hire a PR firm. They are up against a cabal of special interests who want to defeat the idea
Let me help

"How many of you have family members or friends who have moved out of EBR Parish to Livingston or Ascension so they can send their kids to public schools
How much do those people spend in BR? How much in property taxes do they pay to EBR?
The young middle class families of Baton Rouge aren't moving to Texas, they are moving out of the parish. St George might become a separate entity, but it still would provide tons of tax dollars for this parish and encourage people to stay in the parish instead of moving to Prairieville or Walker. In the long run that would be a huge win for Baton Rouge and EBR"

The "One Baton Rouge" crowd needs to contemplate the very real possibility that the law of unintended consequences is going to bite them in the arse

A lot of people in education believe this.

That's true. I'm an educator and the biggest gripe I have about the majority of other educators is that they don't want to mold their teaching styles to fit their students. They instead try to mold their students to fit their teaching styles. It goes aginst everything you are taught as an educator.

It's Bloomberg News at that, not exactly known for slanting to either right or left of the political aisle

You know who owns Bloomberg news, right? Recently has some free time to give some editorial advice?

That said maybe this issue will finally bring up the issue of the majority voting to take money from the minority through taxation. I mean over the years the alternative is to just move - kind of like Detroit where the tax base basically moved to the suburbs or DC where they moved to Va/md etc

Do they really have enough money to start up a new city infrastructure though? Seems Like a lot of capital...

I am 100% opposed to the city of St. George.

However that's an unfair characterization. There are many people with money opposed to it. And not everyone who supports it is rich.

The media is stupid.

(I hate the media. Not for the same reasons as the right wing. The right hate's the media because they think they are a vast left wing conspiracy. I hate the media because they are morons. Half the time their pie charts don't even add up)

Correct.

You know what the biggest haven for Louisiana wealth is?

Texas.

Just ask Les Miles.

We have already done so.

Although the media as a whole is responsible, if you had to pick one to thank for it, thank FOX "News"!

Typical weak answer from tuba, Fox News was created to counter how far left the rest of the media had gone

Nothing I said contradicts the well known fact that FOX "News" is anti-liberal. We get it. You hate lefties. You think everyone on TV is a leftie. So you made your own news station with an intentionally slanted rightest view. Good job, bros! Must have been really hard.

It is interesting that article is designed to push the class warfare and divisiveness buttons.

I guess freedom and domestic tranquillity are not part of the writer's agenda.

It's become a racial issue, but the writers ignore that St. George will inlcude the idyllic suburban paradises of Gardere and St. Jean.

That's the difference though Tuba, I don't think anybody has a problem admitting Fox News slants right and is pretty much the one news station to counter all the rest that slant heavily left. What frustrates conservatives is the mainstream media will never admit how left they gone on pretty much every other major network and the blatant bias they show, especially during presidential elections. Take the last 2 for instance, (08 and 12) , can you honestly say with a straight face their wasn't blatant favortism?

"well known" by liberals who are used to being pandered to by the entire rest of the media

I love watching you whine. Libs cannot STAND that there is an outlet that doesn't toe their line because their ideas are too weak to stand on their merits. Hence, anybody who disagrees with their orthodoxy is a "racist" or "homophobe" or whatever, EXACTLY like anyone disagreeing with the Catholic Church in medieval Spain was a "heretic". Where'd that end up heading?
